Ryan Seacrest Shares Rare Family Photos as Both of His Parents Battle Cancer

The ‘Wheel of Fortune’ host shared a rare look inside his personal life as both of his parents fight cancer.
Ryan Seacrest may be referred to as “the hardest-working man in show business,” but his ultimate “happy place” isn’t on TV or radio, it’s with his family — especially as both of his parents fight cancer.
Taking to Instagram for a rare look inside his personal life, the Wheel of Fortune host, 50, shared a photo with his sister, Meredith Seacrest Leach, her husband, Jimmy Leach, and their 6-year-old daughter — Ryan’s beloved niece — Flora. The second snap in his Saturday, August 2, post featured him and Flora looking at each other lovingly inside of a car.
While the longstanding American Idol host didn’t reveal the location of the pictures, the family appeared to be at a vineyard.
“My happy place looks a lot like this,” Ryan gushed in the caption of the carousel.

Though the Live With Kelly and Ryan alum has spent decades coming into our homes — whether it’s through Idol, Wheel, Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve, his radio show, every red carpet he’s ever hosted or any other entertainment venture — Ryan tends to keep his own personal life close to the vest. Which is why it was so emotional last month when he let fans know that both of his parents — Gary and Connie Seacrest — have been battling cancer.
Ryan told his On Air With Ryan Seacrest viewers that his dad, who has been privately battling prostate cancer for years, “started his treatment and he — it didn’t get better. It got worse and it spread. It didn’t go well for him.”
Meredith called her brother during a live segment of American Idol earlier this year to tell him their father was in intensive care at the hospital. When Ryan arrived, the family had to make a “life or death” decision.
“She said, ‘Dad is in the ICU’ and ‘How fast can you get here?’” Ryan shared. “I didn’t even remember what I was saying while I was on the show. I said ‘Goodnight,’ and I went to the airport immediately and got on a flight [to Atlanta].”
Fortunately, he said, his father survived the pneumonia that nearly cost him his life.
Now, Ryan noted, “We have to go back into another treatment and fight this cancer. “It’s difficult. … The treatments suck. The treatments are tough. But I know he’s gonna get through this.”
Meanwhile, Ryan needed to also make sure that his mother — who is in remission from her own cancer, he revealed — was OK.
“I needed her to take a break,” he said, which is why he took over part of his father’s care in Atlanta.
On July 20, Ryan’s parents sent him a hopeful photo of them at the beach. He cried. “They just wanted to look at the water. They can’t do much. But I saw him smile. I saw my mom smile,” he recalled. “I’m embarrassed to – I’m just emotional. I am so – anyway, I watched them over the weekend, [they sent] photos of smiling and happiness, and being together. They’ve been married for over 55 years, and they’ve got each other.”
