Whoopi Goldberg remembered Diane Keaton as “one of the nicest women” more than two years after the actress’ awkward, albeit hilarious, interview on The View.
On this morning’s episode of the long-running daytime talk show, the ladies remembered Keaton, who sadly died over the weekend.
“We were saddened and surprised to hear about the passing of the great Diane Keaton, who we lost way too soon. She was 79,” Goldberg said. “Her movies and her style made her an icon through so many generations through the years. She was so great in so many things.”
Goldberg specifically mentioned Keaton’s work in First Wives Club, which was Goldberg’s daughter’s favorite, and The Godfather, while Ana Navarro gushed over Father of the Bride.
“She was a one-of-a-kind,” the EGOT continued. “There are not a lot of people quite like her. [She was] really one of the nicest, kindest … You hear people say, ‘Oh, they were so kind.’ No, she actually was. She actually was one of the nicest women that you’d ever want to meet.”
While Keaton’s cause of death has not been confirmed, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department told CNN that they responded to a call for medical assistance at her address on Saturday morning, where paramedics transferred her to the hospital.
The last time Keaton appeared on The View was in May 2023, when she jokingly begged Alyssa Farah Griffin not to ask her questions. At the time, Keaton was promoting Book Club: The Next Chapter alongside her co-stars Jane Fonda, Mary Steenburgen and Candice Bergen.
“All of you have made me think about aging differently and I think it’s so powerful to see that you can just have so much fun at any age. Now, Diane, I have to ask…” Griffin began, before Keaton cut her off to say, “I had no fun at any age.”

Keaton looked around the audience, which she described as “scary,” before adding, “I mean, there’s a lot of people I’m looking at right now. Look at them. They’re amazing. They’re your people. Look, oh my god. Why am I here?”
When it was time for Griffin to ask Keaton another question later on in the interview, things turned even more awkward.
“Now, Diane,” Griffin said, to which Keaton interjected, “No, not me. Stay away from me. Enough is enough.”
However, the ladies ended on a fun note when they played a video of Keaton dancing to Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” on her Instagram page.
“That’s me! Disgusting! That’s so stupid, I can’t stand it. Look at that, that’s a crazy person,” Keaton joked as the video played on the screen, before taking a sip of her champagne and adding, “I’m gonna drink up to that one.”
