Jennifer Lopez wants to focus on the professional, not the personal.

The 56-year-old star is currently in the middle of promotion for her musical film Kiss of the Spider Woman, which led to questions about the end of her marriage to Ben Affleck.

On Monday, Oct. 6, Lopez appeared on the Today show where she was interviewed by Craig Melvin about the project and Affleck’s involvement.

“In the middle of filming this elaborate, beautiful musical, your divorce was also finalized with Ben,” Melvin began before Lopez cut him off, saying, “There you go! Look at this guy!”

But Melvin then clarified his reasoning for mentioning Affleck when discussing the film, noting, “But then I read that your ex is an executive producer on the film.”

Lopez laughed off the moment, before giving her ex-husband his props.

“If it wasn’t for Ben, the movie wouldn’t have gotten made,” she said, matter-of-factly. “And I will always give him that credit.”

As for her attitude toward the divorce, she added, “And yeah, things happen, you have to keep going.”

In fact, the film itself seemed to have helped Lopez navigate her own personal turmoil.

“It’s funny, the movie is about escapism. It’s about how movies and art save us in the hardest times of our lives,” she shared. “Doing this project was such a dream come true for me that it really got me through to kind of survive a moment that was difficult in my personal life as well.”

As for the next steps in her life, Lopez added, “After [filming] I took some time off and now we’re back. I’m really excited for everybody to see this film. It’s a beautiful film about love.”

Melvin noted, “And it sounds like it might have helped saved you.”

“It did, it did!” Lopez agreed.

Affleck and Lopez initially met in 2002 and began dating. After ending their engagement in 2004, they both pursued other relationships and started families of their own. The A-listers rekindled their romance in 2021, and they married in an intimate Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022. They celebrated their nuptials with a second ceremony in Georgia in front of friends and family a month later.

However, two years later they split citing irreconcilable differences and settled their divorce in February.

In September, Lopez got candid about filming the musical amid her personal heartbreak during an interview on CBS News Sunday Morning.

“It was a really tough time,” she admitted. “Every moment on set, every moment I was doing this role, I was so happy, and then it was like, back home, it was not great. And it was just like, oh, you know, ‘How do I reconcile this?’ “
