A video of the recent “No Kings” protest in Boston by MSNBC has been accused of reusing footage from 2017, sparking a fierce debate on social media.

Recently, a video broadcast on MSNBC has become a controversial topic on social media.
Many users have alleged that the footage is not a live image from the “No Kings” protest that took place on October 18, 2025 in Boston, but is actually footage from a protest that took place in 2017.
The claim originated from the account @ThePatriotOasis on social network X. This person asserted that MSNBC “faked” the scale of the protest by rebroadcasting old images. At the same time, the article attached the video and screenshots of notes to reinforce the false claim.
However, according to the information verification organization Lead Stories, the video that MSNBC aired actually recorded the “No Kings” protest that took place at Boston Common on October 18, and there was no sign of any substitution on the part of the station.
According to Lead Stories, the August 2017 protest was the time when tens of thousands of people took to the streets to protest the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.
At that time, a small group organized an event at the Parkman Bandstand area in Boston Common, which was captured by the media with aerial footage, especially by CBS 17.
MSNBC was accused of ‘rehashing’ protest videos from 2017 when reporting on the ‘No Kings’ event, what is the truth? – Photo 2.

The important difference is: the 2025 protest took place in the southeast area of the park – completely different from the scene of the 2017 event.
Lead Stories also used the latest satellite imagery from Google Street View to verify the location of protesters gathered between the two events, thereby completely refuting the accusations of “staging”.

In addition, the video that MSNBC aired on October 18 also coincided with the aerial footage that NBC10 Boston broadcast live at 11:15 a.m. the same day – just about 20 minutes before MSNBC went on air. This clearly shows that the video is new and recorded in real time.
