When it comes to late-night television, comedy has long been a tool for politicians and entertainers alike to poke fun at societal issues, politics, and the oddities of everyday life. But there’s one man who’s made it his mission to turn the tables and challenge the usual comedic formula: Greg Gutfeld. Known for his sharp wit and fearless humor, Gutfeld recently took a jab at two of the Left’s most well-known late-night figures—Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel—claiming that the Left may be the best at comedy, but it’s not the type they intend. In fact, it’s an unintentional comedy that may just be the most amusing thing about modern politics today.
The Left’s “Unintentional Comedy”
In his trademark style, Greg Gutfeld kicked off the segment by addressing the notion that left-wing comedians like Colbert and Kimmel are masters of their craft. While many may agree that these comedians are humorous, Gutfeld wasn’t shy in pointing out that the comedy they produce often comes off as more accidental than intentional. It’s not a sharp, biting satire that critiques society—it’s more of a slapstick, over-the-top style that somehow feels misplaced.
With his trademark sarcasm, Gutfeld didn’t hesitate to highlight how absurd some of the Left’s comedic efforts can be. He pointed out that despite the Left’s intention to deliver witty jokes or political commentary, they sometimes end up creating humor of a much different variety. “It’s unintentional,” Gutfeld said, acknowledging the irony that some of the most laughable moments often come from the Left’s attempts to mock, criticize, or make a point. It’s the kind of humor that sneaks up on you—surprising, sometimes ridiculous, but undeniably funny.
The Woke Phenomenon
One prime example Gutfeld used was the ongoing backlash against companies like Cracker Barrel. The restaurant chain recently found itself at the center of controversy for removing an old white man from one of their ads, which some critics quickly labeled as “woke”. Gutfeld, of course, had to add his own commentary on the matter. He joked that the situation was being compared to Kamala Harris’ career, drawing laughs from the audience.
His criticism didn’t end there. Gutfeld also poked fun at the state of political correctness, arguing that the Left’s obsession with being “woke” often leads to decisions that defy logic and create absurd situations—resulting in comedic gold for the right. His humorous comparison was a tongue-in-cheek jab at the Left’s inability to see how their own actions are sometimes more comical than the political punchlines they attempt to deliver.
Gutfeld’s Critique of Current Political Figures
Throughout the segment, Gutfeld managed to infuse his jokes with political commentary, referencing current figures and events. From the FBI’s investigation into former National Security Advisor John Bolton over classified information to the increasing absurdities in the political sphere, Gutfeld’s remarks were scathing yet amusing.
He didn’t hold back from making fun of Joe Biden, either. Gutfeld cracked jokes about Biden’s mental fitness and his supposedly “limited” interactions with his spokesperson. At one point, he even joked that conversations with Biden were so sparse that they had to be conducted via Ouija board. These comments struck a chord with the audience, as Gutfeld delivered each line with his signature snark, offering a moment of levity in an otherwise serious political landscape.
The Fascism Debate: A Hot-Button Topic
Gutfeld then turned his attention to a controversial article from Variety magazine, which suggested that American television shows and films need to depict the “real-life wars” happening in the country as fascism allegedly takes hold. Gutfeld didn’t mince words as he criticized the article’s premise. In a mockingly serious tone, he called the question “ridiculous,” suggesting that the idea of fascism in America was just another example of Left-wing hysteria.
“You know, when I was reading it, I thought, ‘This sounds like something they wrote about George W. Bush,’” Gutfeld remarked, adding that the idea of portraying a fascist reality on TV was nothing more than a dramatic fantasy. He went on to joke about the Left’s fixation on fear-based narratives, using phrases like “mental anorexia” to describe the way some Left-wing pundits had distorted reality.
For Gutfeld, the issue wasn’t about actual political threats, but rather the Left’s penchant for creating these dystopian narratives. According to Gutfeld, their real issue isn’t fascism; it’s their inability to see how far removed they are from the true problems facing everyday Americans.
The Reality of Left-Wing Fears
In typical Gutfeld fashion, he turned the tables on the narrative that the Left is being “silenced” or “oppressed.” He ridiculed claims that free speech is under attack, pointing to the recent rise in social media freedom, particularly after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. Gutfeld made the point that the Left’s fear of censorship is unwarranted, especially in an age where voices on both sides are able to engage in public discourse without government interference.
Gutfeld also slammed the claim that healthcare is being slashed by the government, highlighting what he saw as absurd contradictions in the Left’s arguments. He pointed to policies that force taxpayers to fund surgeries for children or pay for the healthcare of undocumented immigrants. He humorously suggested that perhaps those in the Left might want to rethink their stance on healthcare when considering the many contradictions inherent in their own arguments.
The Humor That Cuts Both Ways
Despite all the biting political commentary, Gutfeld made it clear that comedy, at its best, should be able to cut both ways. While he was critical of the Left, he wasn’t afraid to laugh at the Right as well. Whether it was poking fun at Joe Biden’s mental state or mocking the current state of mainstream media, Gutfeld’s humor was designed to provoke thought, while offering much-needed laughter in a time of political turmoil.
The Left’s Unintentional Comedy: A Blessing in Disguise?
Gutfeld’s central thesis was simple: the Left may think they’re providing sharp, thought-provoking comedy, but in reality, they’re delivering some of the best unintentional comedy out there. From woke culture to political correctness, these issues create absurd scenarios that ultimately leave the audience laughing—not with them, but at them.
So, while Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel may claim to be masters of comedy, Gutfeld’s argument is that the real comedic talent lies in the chaos and contradictions of the Left. The more they try to control the narrative, the more they feed into their own comedic downfall.
