After being fired from CNN for a series of inappropriate remarks, Don Lemon has thrust himself into a new scandal—a malicious and vicious jab aimed at conservative commentator Megyn Kelly. This time, he crossed a line, using terminology widely regarded as a slur against the transgender community, causing the very LGBTQ+ community he once championed to turn against him.

During a recent appearance on the Clip Farmers podcast, Lemon was asked if Megyn Kelly was “chopped” (meaning not attractive). Instead of stopping there, Lemon, who has always positioned himself as a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, lit the fuse for the controversy:

“Yeah, she’s chopped.”

And then came the horrifying conclusion: “I think she looks trans.”

He didn’t stop there, also using the term “looks clockable”—a derogatory slang used to describe a trans person who does not successfully “pass” as their chosen gender. This behavior created an uncontrollable storm of criticism.

The wave of outrage erupted fiercely across social media. Many users immediately and harshly criticized Lemon’s “stunning hypocrisy.”

Only in 2023, in a passionate speech, Lemon strongly condemned anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and boldly defended his “transgender and non-binary siblings.”

Now, a gay man and advocate for the community is using the term “trans” itself as an insult regarding a woman’s appearance. Angry comments flooded X (Twitter) with questions such as: “So wait… now the left is using trans as a pejorative? I’m so confused!”

Despite the intense criticism regarding his misuse of power and derogatory language, Lemon remains adamant in defending his actions. On his self-hosted online program, The Don Lemon Show, the former CNN anchor defiantly stated: “Sometimes, a joke is just a joke.”

However, this weak excuse only serves to reopen old wounds. Many critics recalled that Lemon was previously fired from CNN following a series of comments deemed misogynistic, including stating that Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley was past her prime.
