Fever coach's comments from Caitlin Clark's injury return are a worrying sign image

It’s fair to say the Indiana Fever have not, so far, had the kind of season the team hoped for earlier this year. The team has been plagued by injuries and player departures, but is finally playing with their full roster halfway through the season.

After the Fever’s practice on Thursday, July 10, coach Stephanie White addressed what went wrong during the team’s 81-60 loss against the Golden State Valkyries on July 9.

“There has to be a sense of urgency,” she said, something the Fever played without. “But … it’s not something that happens just because we want it to, right? It’s got to be organic. It’s got to be something that is built in practice.”

“Just because you say you want it doesn’t mean that it happens,” White added. “And I think you started to see that through some of our games where it’s, okay, now we knew exactly where our teammate was going to be. We knew exactly that they had our back. We were able to play with multiple levels of intentional effort.”

This is something that will only get better as the Fever plays more games with the team’s entire roster.

Now at 9-10 on the season, the Fever sit in 7th place in the WNBA standings.
