Brittney Griner had another great night on the court, but it wasn’t her stats that caught all the attention on Saturday.
The Atlanta Dream picked up their second win of the 2025 WNBA season with an 83-75 victory over the Dallas Wings, but the real heat came from Griner’s frustration boiling over- live, on national television.
Griner, who joined Atlanta this season after spending her entire WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury, was in the talks for more than her performance. By the end of the third quarter, she had already racked up 15 points and seven rebounds. But instead of celebrating a strong showing, the veteran center stole the halftime show for a very different reason.

During a live CBS Sports halftime interview, Griner abruptly cut things short when she noticed the referees passing nearby. Without hesitation, she stormed toward them and let loose. “Be f**king better,” she said sharply, clearly fed up with the first-half officiating. The microphone caught the moment as it aired live, surprising viewers and drawing instant reactions across social media.
Griner didn’t ignore the outburst. As she returned to the interview set with analyst Renee Montgomery and sideline reporter Angel Gray, she turned to the camera and offered a quick apology. “Sorry, y’all,” she said, flashing a mix of regret and irritation.

The tension on Saturday came on the heels of another controversy involving Griner. Earlier this week, fans erupted online over a video clip that appeared to show her yelling a racial slur during a game against the Indiana Fever. In the video, Griner seemed to shout “trash f**king white girl,” which many believed was aimed at rising star Caitlin Clark. The WNBA has not commented publicly on the clip, but fans are calling for an investigation.
This is Griner’s comeback season after a turbulent past few years. Her 2022 arrest in Russia halted her run with the Mercury. She later returned to the U.S. and rejoined the league, now anchoring the Dream’s roster with her physical play and veteran leadership.
Saturday’s win gives Atlanta a bit of momentum early in the season. But for Griner, the bigger challenge may be managing the fire she brings to the court, especially when the cameras never stop rolling.
