Kansas City Chiefs Fans, Exciting Updates Ahead!
The Kansas City Chiefs are making some significant moves that have set the team ablaze with excitement, while some fans are still trying to wrap their heads around the ongoing changes. Whether you’re eagerly following the team’s new strategies or are still a bit hesitant, we encourage you to stay tuned as we break it all down in today’s video.
General Manager Brett Veach and the Chiefs are slightly shifting their approach to contracts, and it’s already proving to be beneficial. Recently, the team has finalized multi-year contract extensions with several players from the 2021 NFL Draft class. Among the most notable is center Creed Humphrey, but another standout, tight end Noah Gray, has now become the second player from that class to secure a new deal under Veach’s leadership.
Unlike linebacker Nick Bolton or guard Trey Smith, Gray wasn’t widely seen as a top candidate for an extension. However, the former fifth-round pick has signed a new three-year deal, keeping him with the Chiefs through the 2027 season. In a heartfelt statement, Gray shared his gratitude about staying with the Chiefs:
“I’m extremely grateful. I can’t thank God enough. I can’t thank Clark Hunt and the Hunt family enough. This organization, front office, coaches, teammates, just everyone I’ve been fortunate to work with over the past 3 years. It’s an absolute blessing. I’m super thankful to be here for the foreseeable future.”
At just 25 years old, Gray has steadily become a larger part of the Chiefs’ offensive scheme. Last season marked his best performance to date, recording 28 receptions, 305 receiving yards, and two touchdowns—all career highs. He also played 592 offensive snaps, nearly matching his total from the previous season. Gray’s versatility on special teams has further solidified his role as a valuable player.
This offseason, Veach indicated that the team intends to scale back Gray’s special teams duties and involve him more in the offense. This was evident in the Week 1 victory against the Baltimore Ravens, where Gray caught three passes for 37 yards. With rookie Jarek Wyand trade acquisition Peyton Hendershot also in the mix at tight end, the Chiefs are feeling confident about their depth behind star Travis Kelce.
Gray’s fourth season is shaping up to be his most impactful yet, and it’s off to a promising start as the Chiefs prepare for Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. The veteran tight end is ready to embrace whatever role comes his way, saying:
“I’m just out here having fun with my guys. Whatever the coaches ask of me, I’m ready to do it. I owe a lot to Coach Dave Toub for putting me in great positions these past 3 years, as well as Coach Tom Melvin and the rest of the staff. Whatever they need from me, I’m here for it, and I’m having a blast.”
Stay tuned for more updates on Gray’s progress and how these contract moves continue to impact the Chiefs’ season. The team is setting up for another exciting year, and it looks like Noah Gray is ready to play a bigger role than ever.
