Declaration of War from the Feds: FBI Launches Terrorism Probe Against Antifa After Shocking ‘Battle’ at UC Berkeley

Bondi faces criticism for saying DOJ will 'target' anyone who engages in 'hate speech' - ABC News

The University of California, Berkeley—a historical symbol of the free speech movement—has now become the focal point of a seismic federal terrorism investigation.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), led by Attorney General Pam Bondi, has publicly announced that the riots that erupted outside a Turning Point USA event on the UC Berkeley campus have officially been handed over to the FBI-led Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF). This unprecedented move elevates the political conflict to a national security threat.

Political Battleground: UC Berkeley Becomes a “WARZONE”

Justice Dept. Says It Will Investigate U.C. Berkeley Protest

The event that took place on Monday evening at UC Berkeley was supposed to be a peaceful conservative gathering featuring comedian Rob Schneider and Christian author Frank Turek. Instead, it quickly devolved into a violent battleground.

Attorney General Pam Bondi did not mince words, declaring on X: “Antifa is an existential threat to our nation.” She affirmed that the riot has been brought under full investigation, vowing that the DOJ “will continue to spare no expense unmasking all who commit and orchestrate acts of political violence.”

This statement followed the rapid circulation of video evidence from the scene, posted by conservative independent journalist Nick Sortor, which completely contradicted the attempts by university officials to downplay the incident. “BREAKING: Antifa has turned Turning Point’s event at UC Berkeley in California into an absolute WARZONE,” Sortor wrote, alongside footage showing “munitions are being lit on fire by Antifa while attendees are rushed into the venue.”

Despite this chaos, UC Berkeley spokesman Dan Mogulof minimized the severity, claiming the event proceeded “safely, successfully and without disruption,” and noted only “a single violent incident” leading to nine arrests (according to The Daily Californian student newspaper). However, the FBI’s formal intervention entirely invalidates this reassurance.

The Federal Fury: Dismantling Violent Networks

This terrorism investigation was activated under President Donald Trump’s Executive Order, which designated Antifa as a domestic terror organization. This sends a powerful signal from Washington: political violence will no longer be tolerated under the guise of protest.

The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, led by Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon, will participate in the investigation to clarify “antifa’s ability to operate with impunity in California.” Dhillon, a well-known conservative figure, pointed out that this is not the first time Berkeley has been a hotspot: “We saw all of this at Berkeley back in 2017. @UCBerkeley was sued, and settled the case. The @CivilRights will investigate what happened here, and I see several issues of serious concern regarding campus and local security and Antifa’s ability to operate with impunity in CA.”

The DOJ’s objective is clear: “Under President Trump’s leadership… the Department of Justice and our law-enforcement partners are dismantling violent networks that seek to intimidate Americans and suppress their free expression and First Amendment rights.”

Chilling Warning and Ideological Foundations

The Berkeley incident is not merely a riot; it is a chilling reminder of the loss of former conservative leader Charlie Kirk. Frank Turek, a speaker at the event, emotionally shared: “I’m never going to forget Charlie’s eyes looking back past me in the car,” alluding to the final moments before Kirk was assassinated—an event that changed his life.

The groups behind the protest, including Jewish Voice for Peace, Students Organizing for Liberation, and Cal Young Democratic Socialists of America (with notable links to the democratic socialist movement growing from coast to coast, exemplified by NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani), exhibited extreme anti-police messaging. Their chants echoed 2020-era anti-police activism: “UCPD, KKK, IOF they’re all the same” and “no justice, no peace, fk these racist a** police.”

California College Republicans Chair Miguel Muñiz fiercely condemned the agitators, accusing them of protesting under the guise of anti-fascism while employing fascist tactics.

“These aren’t people who want to kill fascism,” Muñiz said. “These are vermin that want to spread as much negativity as possible and they want people to get hurt. That’s not an unwanted consequence of their action. It’s the best case result for them.

Amid escalating federal pressure, UC Berkeley has been compelled to cooperate with federal investigators and the FBI to “identify the outside agitators responsible for attempting to disrupt” the event. This investigation is not only targeting Antifa but serves as a major warning to related organizations accused of using violence to suppress free speech on campuses nationwide, ending the era of “operating with impunity” in California.
