Reba McEntire is more than ready for her performance at Super Bowl LVIII.

The country superstar will sing the national anthem ahead of the big game in Las Vegas on Sunday, and she told Apple Music in a new interview that she’s been preparing for the performance in a very relatable way.

“I’ve been singing the national anthem in the shower [and] when we get in the car,” said McEntire, 68, referencing car rides with her boyfriend, actor Rex Linn, who’s a “huge football fan.”Reba McEntire

“He’ll say, ‘OK, sing it one more time.’ I said, ‘I think I know the words real good right now, so I’m alright,’” added the Grammy winner of her preparation process, noting that it “helps” to “know that everybody’s gonna be singing it with me” at Allegiant Stadium.

“If I know they’re singing along, and they’re remembering and having fun too, that’s easier on me, but just to be prepared when you walk out there,” said McEntire, who’s been singing the national anthem at sporting events since she was a teenager.Reba McEntire, Post Malone and Andra Day attend the Super Bowl LVIII Pregame & Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show press conference at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center on February 08, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Elsewhere in the interview, the “Fancy” singer spoke about feeling “honored beyond words” to sing at the Super Bowl for the first time and opened up about what the moment means to her.

“I get to sing a very special song for all Americans, people all around the world, who have really worked so hard for our freedom and to give us peace,” she told Apple Music host Nadeska Alexis. “It’s not about me — I’m the representation of this song, and I’m just honored to get to sing it. It’s a good one. I’ve been doing it for 50 years, and I’m really proud to get to sing it.”

Sunday’s game will mark McEntire’s second time ever attending a Super Bowl. She previously watched the Dallas Cowboys compete against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Mountain America Stadium (formerly Sun Devil Stadium) in Tempe, Arizona, in 1996.

Now, she’s especially excited because Super Bowl LVIiI is in one of her favorite cities. “I love Las Vegas. My first time here was in ’83 with the Statler Brothers, opening for them at the MGM Grand,” said McEntire. “[The Super Bowl has] never been in Nevada, the state of Nevada, so this is a first for a lot of things, and I’m just tickled to pieces to be a part of it.”

The “I’m a Survivor” musician also shared what she plans to do in Las Vegas following the Super Bowl: “Eat. You go see as many shows as you can, you eat. The food is spectacular. Maybe hit a little shopping.”

In addition to McEntire’s rendition of the national anthem, Post Malone will sing “America the Beautiful” and Andra Day will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at Super Bowl LVIII, where Usher will headline the halftime show.

Reba McEntire Belts Out the National Anthem—in the Shower—Ahead of Her 2024 Super Bowl Debut

Nashville, TN – The Queen of Country is hitting the high notes… from the bathroom.

With the world counting down the days to Super Bowl LVIII, legendary country star Reba McEntire is preparing for one of the most high-pressure performances of her career—singing the national anthem in front of millions. And her unconventional rehearsal space? Her shower.

“I’ve been singing it in the shower for weeks now,” Reba confessed with a laugh in a recent interview. “There’s just something about the acoustics in there. It’s like your own private concert hall.”

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - FEBRUARY 08: Reba McEntire speaks during the Super Bowl LVIII Pregame & Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show press conference at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center on February 08, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 69-year-old icon, known for timeless hits like “Fancy” and “Consider Me Gone”, was officially announced as the national anthem performer for the 2024 Super Bowl, set to take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. While some might find the idea nerve-wracking, Reba is embracing it with the same fearless energy that has defined her career.

“I was honored to be asked. I mean, who wouldn’t be?” she said. “The national anthem is one of the most powerful songs in our country’s history. It deserves every ounce of emotion, every breath, every note.”

But even for a seasoned performer like Reba—who has sold more than 75 million records worldwide and racked up dozens of awards—prepping for this kind of performance isn’t easy. That’s why she’s sticking to a routine that’s both familiar and personal.

“I wake up, I make my tea, and I go straight to the bathroom,” she shared. “I shut the door, turn on the water, and just let it rip.”

According to Reba, the shower isn’t just a place to warm up her voice—it’s a sanctuary. “There’s no judgment in there. No stage lights, no pressure. Just me and the anthem. And maybe my shampoo bottles as my audience.”

Fans have already taken to social media with excitement and pride over the country legend’s upcoming performance. “If anyone can do justice to that song, it’s Reba,” one Twitter user posted. “She’s got the heart and the voice.”

This will mark Reba’s first time performing at the Super Bowl, and it’s a moment that’s not lost on her. “It’s not just another gig,” she explained. “This is a patriotic moment. People are watching from all over the world. I want to represent my country and my fans the best I can.”

As the big day approaches, don’t be surprised if Reba’s shower sessions continue to echo through the halls of her Nashville home. After all, when you’re preparing to sing in front of 100 million people, every little practice moment counts.

And if her performance is even half as powerful as her shower rehearsals, America is in for a truly unforgettable anthem.
