In a heartwarming moment that touched fans nationwide, Dolly Parton recently met 8-year-old Pearl Monroe Tucker—affectionately known as Roe Roe—at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Roe Roe’s incredible journey battling leukemia was buoyed by the power of Dolly’s music, a connection that became deeply visible during their emotional encounter in March 2024.

The meeting took place during Dollywood’s 39th opening weekend at the Heartsong Resort. Dolly noticed Roe Roe and her 10-year-old sister, Carson Parry, holding handmade signs. Roe Roe’s sign read, “Dolly, your music helped me beat cancer,” while Carson’s proclaimed, “I’m the best big sister.” Dolly paused, embraced Roe Roe, and asked with heartfelt concern, “You’re all right now?” before joyfully saying, “Oh I’m so happy for you!”

Roe Roe’s battle with acute lymphocytic leukemia began at age 3 and lasted a grueling 858 days. Her treatment involved nearly 1,400 chemotherapy pills, multiple spinal infusions, hospital stays, ER visits, and surgeries. Through the toughest days, songs like Dolly’s “Chemo Hero” and “I’m A Brave Little Soldier” brought calm and strength to Roe Roe and her family.

Chad Tucker, Roe Roe’s father and a FOX8 WGHP news anchor, shared the touching video of the encounter on Instagram. The clip quickly went viral, spreading the inspiring story of resilience and the healing power of music. The family’s openness has helped raise awareness of childhood cancer’s challenges and the importance of hope and support.

Inspired by Dolly’s Imagination Library, the Tucker family founded “The Hero Library” through their Roe Roe’s Heroes Childhood Cancer Foundation. This initiative provides comforting children’s books to young cancer fighters, symbolizing a commitment to easing the difficult journey of illness. Chad’s visible dedication—often wearing yellow ties on air—reflects the family’s advocacy for increased funding and research, especially given that only 5% of federal dollars are allocated to childhood cancer cures.

This heartfelt encounter exemplifies Dolly Parton’s enduring legacy—not only as a musical icon but as a source of compassion and inspiration. Her philanthropy and personal connections with fans create moments like these that resonate far beyond the stage. As of May 2025, Roe Roe’s story continues to inspire, reminding us all of the remarkable strength found in music, family, and the human spirit.
