Actor Dabney Coleman has passed away at the age of 92, his daughter confirmed in a statement to People.

Coleman worked in Hollywood for over six decades and just a few of his credits include Tootsie, You’ve Got Mail, The Beverly Hillbillies, and 9 to 5, just to name a few. More recently, he played John Dutton’s elderly father in the hit Paramount television show Yellowstone.

Kevin Costner, his son on Yellowstone, took to social media to mourn his onscreen father, saying, “One of the most heart wrenching scenes I’ve been a part of. What an honor to have gotten to work with Dabney Coleman. May he rest in peace.

One of his other legendary co-stars took to social media to mourn their loss.

Dolly Parton and Dabney Coleman starred together in the 1980 film 9 to 5. He portrayed Franklin Hart Jr., the egotistical, sexist, and tyrannical boss whose oppressive behavior becomes the catalyst for the film’s plot, while Parton played his secretary, Doralee Rhodes, in her movie debut.

Parton’s natural charisma and comedic timing, paired with her memorable performance of the film’s title song, helped to cement her status as a multi-talented entertainer. Together, Coleman’s villainous charm and Parton’s spirited performance create a dynamic contrast that drives the film’s comedic and dramatic elements, making 9 to 5 a timeless classic.

 

The comedy of errors also starred Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as employhees of Hart’s company who think they have killed him and then eventually kidnap and blackmail him into leaving the country and making the office a better place for the female employees to work.

When Parton hard of Coleman’s passing, she released a statement on social media mourning the loss.

“Dabney was a great actor and became a dear friend,” she wrote. “He taught me so much when I was doing my first movie, 9 to 5. He was funny, deep and smart. We remained friends through the years and I will miss him greatly as many people will.”
