Reba McEntire performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” before Sunday’s (Feb. 11) Super Bowl game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs.
McEntire was announced as Super Bowl LVIII’s anthem singer on January 18, saying, “I’m honored to be part of something as big and historic as the Super Bowl coming to Las Vegas for the first time.”
The announcement also revealed that Post Malone would be signing “America The Beautiful” and Andra Day would be performing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
McEntire became the 10th country singer to perform the national anthem before the Super Bowl.
Past country singers who have done the honors include Chris Stapleton, Mickey Guyton, Eric Church, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, The Chicks, Faith Hill, Garth Brooks, and Charley Pride.

When speaking with CBS Mornings, McEntire revealed that she planned to think her decision over when she was asked to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” on the Big Game stage. But, her boyfriend Rex Linn insisted she do it.
“Rex Linn, my boyfriend, is a huge football fan. He said, ‘Yes, she’ll do it. Absolutely.’ So that’s where we’re at,” she told the hosts.
She even revealed how she will prepare, saying, “You just warm up like you do a concert and sing it about five or six times, and get in there, and do it.”
This moment made her career really come full circle, seeing as she was first discovered thanks to her national anthem performance at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City in 1975.
McEntire performed the anthem and did so flawlessly, putting to rest any concerns that she may not be able to do the song justice after Chris Stapleton’s incredible rendition in 2023.
Reba looked incredible as she stood mid-field wearing embroidered black pants, a black blouse and a tan blazer. She also donned two sentimental items: Her father’s belt buckle and her mother’s bracelet. The country star stayed true to the spirit of the song, avoiding any flashy instrumentation or vocals. Instead allowing the song’s powerful lyrics speak for themselves.
