Choreographer Dave Scott tragically passed away on June 16 at age 52. “Dancing With the Stars” judge Derek Hough shared the impact that Scott, who served as a “DWTS” season 8 choreographer, had on his life.
Dave Scott’s Family Shared the Devastating News
On June 16, Scott’s family confirmed his death in a loving statement. “It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Dave Scott, who touched so many lives with his warmth, kindness and spirit,” they shared on his Instagram account.
The statement continued, “During this difficult time we are doing our best to honor his memory in the way he deserves with love, dignity and respect.”
The caption explained, “Today we have lost an icon, a legend, a father and a dear friend. The weight of this loss will send ripples through time. But his memory and legacy will continue to live on. We love you Dave Scott and everything you’ve accomplished and the joy and comfort you’ve brought to people will never be forgotten.”
“Everyone is invited to share this post and let it reach everyone around the world,” the caption continued. “Show your love and support for this amazing individual and share the footprint he has left on this earth.”
In addition to “DWTS,” Scott was also a choreographer for “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Step Up 2: The Streets,” and “You Got Served.”
Derek Hough Shares Touching Tribute to Dave Scott
On June 18, Hough took to his Instagram Stories to pay his respects to Scott and share the choreographer’s impact.
“I just wanted to come on here and to pay my respects to the late Dave Scott,” Hough said. “I didn’t know him personally, but he definitely made an impact in my life.”
The “Dancing With the Stars” judge continued, “I’ll never forget seeing one of his projects, ‘You Got Served,’ for the first time and just being blown away by the choreography, by the energy, by the spirit of that film and the dancing in it that was undoubtedly by his hand.”
He shared, “I mean, he really, truly inspired an entire generation to get them to dance. And so, for that, I’m eternally grateful for his contribution into our community. But more importantly, I’m thankful, you know, to hear all the stories that I’ve heard from his friends and people that have worked with him, or even students of his and how they speak nothing but the most beautiful things about the way he’s inspired them and encouraged them and mentored them.”
Hough added, “We’ve truly lost an icon and a legend in our world, and I just want to pay my respects to his family and loved ones. So, thank you, Dave.”
