Two comic acting legends joined together when Dick Van Dyke guest starred on ‘The Carol Burnett Show.’ In Season 10, Episode 13, Dick appeared to act and sing with Carol on her show.
During the show, Carol and Dick stand on a white stage in white clothes and sing a song about the colors of love. They are elegantly dressed, and Dick strolls out a cart of paint cans.
Carol continues to sing “Color it blue,” and Dick paints her dress blue. Carol continues, “These are the lips that kissed him when he wore a frown. Color them brown.”
Dick does it, and Carol gets comically annoyed. This goes on through the entire song, and Carol gets increasingly annoyed each time. In the end, she is covered head to toe in paint. Dick and Carol break character and laugh before they end the song.
Then, there’s a skit with Dick and Carol as two introverts who cannot talk face to face. They both speak from behind a pole and converse about how talking to yourself can get boring.
Carol tries to look at him, scared but excited to see him. Dick tries to talk to her nicely, “Whenever I meet people, girls, I seem to bore them.” They both peek at each other and just stare, so Dick leaves and Carol calls out, “Wait!”
They decide to face each other, and they sit on a bench and talk for a while about their weird interests. Carol is falling asleep as he speaks. Then, they both realize that they are boring each other and walk away, saying it’s about bedtime.
