Dancing With the Stars” judge Derek Hough can’t wait to become a father. “I’m gonna be a dad!” he exclaimed during an appearance on “Good Morning America.” Hough called fatherhood “the ultimate” and shared, “It’s something I’ve been dreaming of for so long.”

On July 22 Hough and his wife, dance pro Hayley Erbert, announced via Instagram that they are expecting their first child together. In the clip, the happy couple share a sweet embrace and Erbert reveals she’s holding a strip of sonogram photos. “We can’t believe the biggest thing to happen to us could be so small ♥️” the couple captioned the post.

Hough, who appeared alongside his sister Julianne Hough on “GMA,” said he “can’t wait” to be a father and joked with host Michael Strahan that he’d be calling him for advice. The longtime dance pro also shared that he and his wife wondered whether their child would follow in their footsteps.

“We’re thinking about it. Hayley and I met dancing and so, we’ll see,” Hough said with a big smile.

Hough & Erbert Always Planned to Start a Family Together

Hough and Erbert, who tied the knot in August of 2023, have been talking about expanding their family for a while. In February of 2023 the couple revealed that spending time with pals Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson and their son Rome inspired them to start talking babies.

“There wasn’t a rush on [having kids] until we just met Val and Jenna Chmerkovskiy’s baby, and that was when it was kind of like, ‘So should we get on this now?’” Hough told Entertainment Tonight.

And something Chmerkovskiy said to Hough really got him thinking. “It was pretty special and actually it was cool because Val, he was like, ‘Bro, for somebody who was created to create, this will be your ultimate creation,’” the “DWTS” judge explained.

Hough & Erbert’s Baby News Was Met With Excitement

When Hough and Erbert announced they were going to be parents, no one was more excited for them than their “DWTS” family.

“Oh my gosh!!!! Congratulations you guys … sending you lots of love,” Shana Burgess commented on the couple’s Instagram post.

Omg!!! Congratulations!!!! Baby Hough!!! ❤️❤️❤️ I am so happy for you both!!! ✨✨✨✨✨✨” Carrie Ann Inaba wrote.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy chimed in as well, writing, “Congratulations parents!!! NOW we’re finally on the same schedule!!! Baby Hough is going to love being your baby! ❤️❤️❤️”

And speaking of Instagram, Hough’s bio now reads “Soon to be Daddy.” So sweet!
