Disgraced news anchor Matt Lauer is reportedly plotting a return to the media, eight years after he was fired from Today.

‘Angry’ Matt Lauer Plotting His Comeback 8 Years After Being Fired From ‘Today’ For Sexual Misconduct

In November 2017, Lauer was fired by NBC after multiple female staffers – including a young intern – accused him of sending them inappropriate messages and revealing photos.

A day after he was fired, Lauer issued a public apology, stating, “There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions.”

He added at the time that some of the accusations were “untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed.”

After being fired, two other women came forward. One claimed Lauer summoned her to his office for sex; when she complied, for fear of losing her job otherwise, Lauer had sex with her until she passed out. The other woman alleged that Lauer raped her at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Lauer has denied these accusations and insisted the incidents were consensual.

Now, an inside source on Monday said that Lauer is “doing well in his private life,” and “wants to get back into the media arena in some capacity, if not TV.”

“He has talked to some people about it,” the source added.

Lauer currently lives in the Hamptons and is focused on being a good father to his three children, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Annette Roque. Although happy, Lauer is reportedly “still angry” with “the way he was treated by the industry… [and] people he thought were his friends.”

News of Lauer’s intention to return to the media comes just one year after another source told People Lauer was not “looking to” return to the industry anytime soon.

At the time, the source noted, “The current cycle of politics isn’t anything even people who have been doing it for a long time are really excited to cover.”

In January of this year, former CNN journalist Don Lemon predicted Lauer would be making a comeback on the Hollywood Raw podcast, declaring, “People love him,” and “Women love him.”

He noted, “I think that if he could come back to digital, he can set his own course… I think the general public would accept —  just me —  would accept Matt back… people would watch [Lauer] and… the ratings would be great.”
