Ryan Seacrest said that he let Vanna White in on a secret about the Wheel of Fortune.
The 50-year-old host and co-host White, 68, spoke about their professional chemistry on a recent edition of ABC’s Good Morning America, as they prepared for their sophomore season working with one another.
On the show, the Atlanta-born star explained a technical detail he enlightened White about.
Seacrest – who replaced the retiring Pat Sajak in 2024 – said that the clicking sounds from the shows main prop – the wheel – come from rubber bands.
‘Do you know the clicking sound?’ Seacrest, who is in his second season as host of the stalwart game show, said in the GMA segment.
Seacrest explained the technical details of the wheel and its’ related sound effects: ‘There are rubber bands, like you used to have with orthodontia on your teeth – that’s what makes the clicking.’

Ryan Seacrest, 50, let Vanna White, 68, in on a secret about the Wheel of Fortune – that the clicking sounds from the shows main prop – the wheel – come from rubber bands
White said that through more than four decades on the show, she wasn’t aware that producers used rubber bands to produce to create the clicking sound.
‘Do you know I never knew that?’ White said, to which Seacrest said in response, ‘Well, welcome to season 43 – you’re gonna really like it here!’
White – who is in her 43rd season of appearing on the show – said that amid the changes, she loves ‘coming to work every day,’ as ‘it’s always fun.’
GMA correspondent Trevor Ault told White, ‘You’ve become this kind of institution, but it seems like none of the energy has worn off – it still seems like you’re just really happy to do the job.’
White responded, ‘I am – and you never know what’s going to happen!’
White credited Seacrest as being a quick learn as he took over for Pat Sajak last fall.
‘He did his homework before he came, and the transition was amazing,’ White said of Seacrest. ‘He just slipped right in, like [he’d] been doing it forever.’
White said that she recently reconnected with her longtime coworker Pat Sajak as he appeared in a play called Prescription: Murder.

White and Pat Sajak had been featured on the nighttime edition of the game show since 1983
Sajak announced he was leaving the show on his Twitter page in June of 2023
‘He was in play, and I was so impressed,’ White said of her longtime onscreen colleague. ‘How does he memorize all those lines? He’s a good actor, too!’
Seacrest said he recently missed a ‘thoughtful, wonderful’ voicemail from Sajak.
‘He left me a voicemail that somehow, I missed for several weeks, and I finally found it,’ Seacrest said.
Sajak broke the news of his departure from the show in June of 2023, tweeting, ‘Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last.
‘It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)’
A subsequent tweet from the long-running game show read: ‘Thank you to the best host in the biz. Wheel of Fortune would not be what it is today without you, Pat. Looking forward to Season 41 being better than ever!’
Sajak got his start as host of the daytime series beginning in 1981, exiting that edition to host his own late night series in 1989. The daytime edition was canceled in 1991. Sajak won three Daytime Emmys for his hosting efforts on the series and in 2011, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his work on the TV staple.
