Back in November, we reported that the comedian Ellen DeGeneres had fled America and moved across the world to the United Kingdom. In the months since then, DeGeneres has been laying low in England with her actress wife Portia de Rossi of Arrested Development fame.

Now, it appears that DeGeneres might have finally realized that she made a huge mistake in fleeing America. Indeed, insiders are saying that DeGeneres is missing the “comfort” of her home country after her “difficult” move abroad.

‘It’s Been Difficult…’

DeGeneres, 67, and de Rossi, 52, have been in the U.K. for seven months now. Unfortunately for them, they’ve found that this move hasn’t quite been what they thought it would be.

“It’s been difficult at times because they do miss the comfort of things back in America,” an insider close to the couple told In Touch Weekly.

Despite this, DeGeneres and de Rossi are still trying to stay positive. The source went on to say that DeGeneres and de Rossi have “navigated plenty of hiccups” over the years. They’ve been together since 2008.

“So they weren’t all that thrown off by the stumbling blocks they’ve faced in the U.K.,” the insider alleged.

These “stumbling blocks” have included their $15 million Cotswolds home in the British countryside being plagued by floods. This resulted in extensive damage that undoubtedly cost DeGeneres and de Rossi a pretty penny. DeGeneres and de Rossi were eventually forced to completely flee the home. They then had to move to another mansion located about thirty minutes away from their original property.

“They knew going into this that it wasn’t going to be totally smooth sailing, it was always going to be a challenge,” the source claimed. “Taking on a big renovation in a foreign country is not easy.”

DeGeneres And de Rossi Flee America For The U.K.

Prior to this move, DeGeneres and de Rossi had lived in the ritzy area of Southern California for decades. There, they became used to constant and enviably warm temperatures. In contrast, England is notorious for being dark and gray with frequent rain. The British weather has undoubtedly been hard for DeGeneres and de Rossi to get used to as well.

This has likely been a major disappointment for DeGeneres and de Rossi. Indeed, they had high hopes going into this move.

“Ellen and Portia going to England was an extreme move and the kind of thing only incredibly rich people with full staffs of helpers can even contemplate pulling off,” a close friend of the couple’s told In Touch back in January.

“In terms of their possessions, they left pretty much everything back in SoCal for their staff to sort through, get rid of, put into storage and even sell,” this source continued. “They are truly starting over in England and that says a lot, because they put thousands of hours into their furniture and clothing collections and designing their homes in Los Angeles and then in Santa Barbara.”

DeGeneres ‘Was Just Done With America’

The fallout over DeGeneres’ infamous toxic workplace scandal appears to have played a huge role in this move.

“Ellen was just done with America and Portia was also ready to turn the page,” the friend explained. “But make no mistake, they left behind millions of dollars in possessions and collections to make this move and, because it was Ellen’s idea, you have to peel back the layers a little bit.”

In the end, it seems that DeGeneres and de Rossi are learning the hard way that they may have been too hasty in fleeing America. Only time will tell if the two of them come crawling back to the states anytime soon!
