NEW YORK—In a candid revelation that blends personal life with her musical process, pop sensation Taylor Swift shared on Monday that she wrote her upcoming album The Life of A Showgirl while her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce, indulged in his usual routine of watching Family Guy.
“From the first track to the last, he was there for the entire process,” Swift said, with a slight chuckle, referring to her boyfriend’s unflinching dedication to his favorite show. “He was sprawled out on the couch with his mouth agape and his arm buried in a box of Cheez-Its, like the true king of comfort he is.”
In the intimate and playful conversation, Swift revealed that, although Sabrina Carpenter is the album’s only officially credited featured artist, listeners may be in for a surprise. “If you listen closely to some of the tracks, you’ll hear Travis in the background. You’ll hear him shout, ‘Ha ha ha, Quagmire,’ right on cue. It’s like his unofficial cameo in every song.”
Swift also disclosed that while she had initially started working on her album during the American Dad phase of Kelce’s TV preferences, he recently made a transition to a Family Guy obsession. “The Tortured Poets Department was all American Dad, but lately, Travis has been on a Family Guy kick,” Swift said, adding, “Sure, it was distracting at times, but that’s the beauty of being an artist—you learn to take inspiration from everything around you. If you pay close attention to the track ‘Eldest Daughter,’ you might catch a few Meg references.”
While some fans might view this quirky behind-the-scenes tidbit as purely anecdotal, Swift explained that both Kelce and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane had earned special credits on the album. “They’re both co-writers,” she said with a smirk, hinting that their contributions could be found in more than just the playful background sounds.
With Swift’s career known for deeply personal songwriting and subtle pop culture references, it’s no surprise that this album mixes both her love for Kelce and her playful nods to Family Guy. Fans now have more to look forward to than just fresh music—they can expect the unexpected moments and inside jokes that come with it, as Swift’s process has, apparently, taken a page straight from Kelce’s couch.
