A recent investigation by The New York Times has sparked public controversy after alleging that billionaire Elon Musk used multiple illicit substances, including ketamine and cocaine. In response, Musk struck back by publicly releasing the results of a drug test to refute the claims.

On June 17, Russian outlet RT reported that Elon Musk had posted his drug test results online to counter the accusations made in The New York Times article, which claimed he had been using a variety of drugs in recent years.

The test, conducted by a U.S. drug testing laboratory, was shared by Musk on his official account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on June 16. The post was captioned simply: “Lol.”

The results showed that Musk tested negative for amphetamines, benzodiazepines, opioids, cocaine, and several other narcotic substances.

Earlier, The New York Times alleged that Musk had used a mix of drugs—including LSD (a hallucinogen), cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy), and psychedelic mushrooms—during the time he served as an advisor to former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The report also cited a similar article from The Wall Street Journal last year, which claimed that Musk’s alleged drug use had caused concern among board members of Tesla and SpaceX.

Additionally, The New York Times quoted anonymous sources saying Musk had reportedly taken ketamine in such high doses that it affected his bladder.

Musk has strongly denied the allegations. On X, he declared: “I do not use drugs,” and accused The New York Times of “lying through their teeth.” He explained that his past use of ketamine—prescribed by a doctor as an anesthetic—was disclosed years ago and should not be considered breaking news.

“Ketamine helped me through some dark mental times,” Musk wrote. “But I haven’t used it since.”

He also emphasized that anyone accusing him of drug use was “lying through their teeth,” noting that he is “one of the most photographed people on Earth” and meets daily with people from various sectors. His implication: if he were using illicit substances, someone would have found out by now.

Former President Donald Trump—who has had a strained relationship with Musk in recent months—commented that he was unaware of any drug use by Musk and expressed skepticism about the allegations.

The controversy follows the now-infamous 2018 incident in which Musk smoked marijuana during a podcast interview with Joe Rogan. After that event, NASA required SpaceX to implement stricter anti-drug policies and conduct random drug testing. Musk stated in a recent post on X that he was randomly tested for three years following the incident and “no trace of drugs or alcohol was ever found.”
