Virginia mother has shared horrifying photos revealing the aftermath of a brutal attack on her young son – an incident she said left him with Bell’s Palsy.

Enzo Guimaraes, 13, was inside his classroom at Robert Aylor Middle School last week when principal David Rudy called his mother to inform her he had been involved in an altercation with another student.

However, he assured her that the situation was resolved – but for Deise Ellston, the nightmare was only just beginning, Fox 5 reported.

When Ellston arrived at the school, she was shocked to discover the so-called ‘altercation’ had left her son with a droopy face and the inability to fully close his eyes or smile.

‘Enzo was the victim of a violent and hate-motivated assault inside his middle school classroom,’ the family wrote to a GoFundMe page. ‘The attack was not only physical – it was deeply personal and degrading.’

‘Another student brought a dog treat to school, called Enzo a dog, and made horrific, racially charged sexual remarks about our family,’ the post added.

‘When Enzo stood up to defend himself, he was brutally punched in the face and head. As a result, he was diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy, a form of facial paralysis due to nerve trauma.’

On April 8, Ellston received a nonchalant call from Rudy about an issue involving Enzo and another student, though he emphasized that the matter had already been handled.

The school nurse followed up with a call just moments later, explaining that she had given Enzo an ice pack to treat his face.

Deise Ellston, Enzo's mother, claimed that the school downplayed the entire incident and urged her not to report the attack, suggesting that because she had only moved legally from Brazil to the US in 2018, she 'didn't know the laws here' (pictured: Ellston)

Growing increasingly concerned, Ellston left her dentist appointment in Gainesville and rushed to the school – only to be horrified by what she saw when she arrived.

Seemingly paralyzed, one of her son’s eyes also wouldn’t fully close, a troubling sign that the altercation was far more serious than the school initially led on.

His alleged aggressor, Ellston said, was simply sent back to class.

‘When I arrived to the school and Enzo was in one room and the aggressor is back to the class, I asked the principal’s assistant, why didn’t you take photos, and they said we don’t need to take photos,’ Ellston told Fox News.

‘I said, yes you do, because it’s an aggression.’

The school’s administration urged Ellston not to report the attack, suggesting that because she had only moved legally from Brazil to the US in 2018, she ‘didn’t know the laws here’, Fox News reported.

A report was eventually filed by a school resource officer, but it described the attack as a ‘mutual combat incident’ – yet another way Ellston felt that the school was downplaying the seriousness of the event.

‘We were never notified of the incident when it happened; the school refused to provide access to security footage,’ the family detailed on the GoFundMe.

The family also shared a doctor’s note, revealing that Enzo was ultimately diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy, reportedly caused by head trauma from the attack.

‘Enzo is a child with a 504 Plan, battling depression and suicidal thoughts – all linked to the relentless bullying he has endured in school for months,’ the family wrote.

‘His psychiatrist has confirmed that the school environment is the sole cause of his mental health crisis,’ they added.

‘Now, we are left fighting alone – for justice, for accountability and for the safety of our child.’

Ellston has since been in the process of completing paperwork to file a restraining order against the other student involved, as well as against the administration of Robert Aylor Middle School, Fox News reported.

A spokesperson of Frederick County Public Schools told the outlet that they are aware of the ‘recent concerns’ regarding a student at the school.

‘Due to the confidential nature of personnel and student matters, we are unable to provide further details at this time,’ the statement said. ‘FCPS remains committed to the safety and well-being of all students.’

‘We will continue to follow established procedures, in accordance with the Code of Virginia and school division policy, to maintain a safe learning environment.’

The family launched a GoFundMe page to help cover legal fees in both state and federal courts, Enzo’s therapy and mental health treatment, the cost of gathering evidence and documentation and income lost due to attending hearings and filing complaints.

‘We are determined to hold those responsible accountable – including the school, the county and the individuals who failed to protect Enzo,’ the family wrote. ‘But we can’t do this alone.’

‘Your support is not just financial – it sends a message that no child should suffer in silence, and no family should face this kind of trauma without a community behind them,’ they added.

‘Please help us fight for Enzo, and for every other child who has been failed by the system.’

The family has raised $940 toward their $14,000 goal as of Thursday morning.

‘He’s kind, intelligent and has always tried to stand up for himself,’ the family wrote. ‘Even in the face of cruelty.’
