“Save Michaś: A Little Boy Fighting a Deadly Kidney Cancer”
Michaś’s Fight for Life
Michaś is only one year and nine months old. At an age when he should be learning new words, taking his first confident steps, and discovering the world with wide-eyed curiosity, he is instead fighting for his life. For the past two months, every day has been a battle against pain, fear, and the uncertainty of tomorrow. The diagnosis his mother received was like a death sentence: a malignant kidney tumor. Since then, nothing has been the same.
This story should never have happened. No parent should ever have to hear such words about their baby. We always believed that children this little couldn’t possibly get so sick. They’re supposed to be playing in the sunshine, clutching their toys, and falling asleep peacefully in their parents’ arms. But in June, our entire world collapsed. Michaś was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered a large tumor in his kidney. The words hung heavy in the air, impossible to process: cancer.

His family’s lives were turned upside down. In just a matter of weeks, Michaś began exhausting chemotherapy treatments. His tiny body endured toxic drugs designed to kill the tumor, but they also stole his strength, his appetite, and his childhood innocence. After only three weeks of this grueling fight, the doctors made a devastating decision: one of his kidneys had to be removed. For a little boy barely out of infancy, the loss was enormous.
But even that wasn’t the end.
The disease turned out to be extraordinarily aggressive. Despite the removal of his kidney, the cancer spread quickly, attacking with a cruelty no child should have to endure. Doctors had no choice but to escalate to stronger chemotherapy protocols. While necessary, this new treatment has been brutal. It has left Michaś weak, fragile, and constantly fighting infections. His mother watches helplessly as her little boy cries in pain, and no hug, no lullaby, no whispered reassurance can make it better.

I am writing this not only as his uncle but also as someone who refuses to give up. I live in Warsaw, and I am doing everything in my power to bring my sister and her son to Poland for treatment. I have been calling hospitals, speaking to doctors, researching every possible option, hoping to find a miracle that will save his life. But the clock is ticking. Every hour, every day that passes makes the disease harder to fight.
There is another challenge standing in our way: legal status. Because they are citizens of Belarus, obtaining a visa has proven extremely difficult. Bureaucracy and paperwork should never stand between a child and the chance to live, but sadly, that is our reality. We are doing everything we can to cut through the red tape, but time is against us. Still, we refuse to give up. Every day we keep pushing, fighting, and hoping.

When I look at Michaś, I don’t just see a sick child. I see a little boy who should have his whole life ahead of him. I see the sparkle in his eyes when he’s not in pain. I see the way he tries to play with his toys, even when he’s too tired to lift them for long. I see the innocence of a child who doesn’t understand why he spends more time in hospital beds than in playgrounds.
Instead of exploring the world, he spends his days surrounded by IV lines, monitors, and doctors in white coats. Instead of taking trips to the park, he takes trips down sterile hallways to oncology wards. His future should have been filled with first days at school, birthday parties, and the joy of growing up. Now his future hangs in the balance, dependent on whether or not we can raise enough money, find the right treatment, and get him the care he so desperately needs.
Every day his mother sits by his bed, holding his tiny hand. She sings to him softly, hoping he will find comfort in her voice. Sometimes he smiles weakly. Sometimes he cries, and she cries with him. There are nights when she doesn’t sleep at all, watching every rise and fall of his chest, terrified that one day it might stop. The strength she shows is unimaginable, but no parent should have to carry this burden alone.
That is why we are asking for help.
The costs of treatment, rehabilitation, medications, and specialist care are staggering. We have already stretched beyond what we thought possible. The family has sold belongings, borrowed from friends, and sacrificed everything to keep the fight going. But it’s not enough. The bills keep coming. The treatments must continue. Stopping now is not an option – because stopping means giving up on Michaś’s life, and that is something we can never, ever do.

Every contribution, no matter how small, is a piece of hope. Every donation brings us closer to giving Michaś a chance. Every share of his story increases the possibility that someone, somewhere, will be moved to help. Together, these small acts of kindness can add up to something extraordinary: the gift of life.
Michaś’s story is not just about illness. It is about courage, resilience, and the power of love. It is about a little boy who, despite everything, fights with all the strength his tiny body can muster. It is about a mother who refuses to let despair win. And it is about a family and community who will not stop searching for a way to save him.
We ask you to see him not as another statistic, not as another case of childhood cancer, but as a child with dreams yet unfulfilled. A child who deserves to laugh, to grow, to run, to play, to live. Michaś deserves a chance at tomorrow.
Please, from the depths of our hearts, help us. Help us bring him to safety. Help us give him access to the treatments he so urgently needs. Help us lift this unbearable weight from his mother’s shoulders.
Every euro, every dollar, every złoty – it all matters. Together, we can give Michaś the chance to survive this cruel disease. Together, we can ensure that his story doesn’t end here, in a hospital ward, but continues into a future filled with joy, discovery, and life.
Michaś is more than a patient. He is a son, a nephew, a grandson. He is a fighter. He is hope itself. And with your help, he can win this battle.
Please, stand with us. Please, help save Michaś.
