Reigniting Old Feuds – Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon to Reunite on New Season of “Who Wants to Be A Millionaire”

The two-decade fake fued will continue on the upcoming season of ABC’s competition show.

A longtime celebrity rivalry will be featured in the new season of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, with Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel meeting once again on the competition show.

What’s Happening:

ABC7 is reporting that Matt Damon is set to be featured on the upcoming season of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire.
Competing alongside Jeopardy host Ken Jennings, Matt Damon’s appearance on the show reignites a longtime “celebrity feud” between Damon and host Jimmy Kimmel.
Premiering on July 23rd on ABC, the news source shared a clip of the upcoming episode, which shows Kimmel taunting Jennings, saying “I’m coming on Jeopardy with someone you hate!”
While the fake feud began nearly 20 years ago when Kimmel joked on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that they had run out of time for the actor, the pair have maintained the bit ever since.
It’ll be fun to watch how the pair go at it in the upcoming episode, which is being played for charity.

Move Over Jimmy Kimmel:

While the late night talk show host has been a regular host of the Academy Awards, this year Conan O’Brien hosted the ceremony where he received strong critical reception.
Next year, the ABC-hosted event will bring O’Brien back to host Hollywood’s Biggest Night.
O’Brien will also star in the upcoming Pixar sequel Toy Story 5 alongside Tim Allen and Tom Hanks.

In what promises to be one of the most entertaining and talked-about moments in recent game show history, long-time comedic “rivals” Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon are set to reunite on the upcoming celebrity season of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Airing this summer on ABC and streaming on Hulu, the new season marks the show’s 25th anniversary, bringing back fan-favorite elements — and a slate of unforgettable celebrity pairings. But none more headline-grabbing than this one.

For years, Kimmel and Damon have been engaged in a hilariously over-the-top, scripted “feud” that began as a running gag on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and evolved into one of late-night TV’s most enduring and beloved bits. The mock rivalry includes countless on-air pranks, fake apologies, “hijacked” interviews, and even red carpet standoffs. The phrase “I want to apologize to Matt Damon, we ran out of time” became Kimmel’s signature sign-off line — and a cultural meme. Now, for the first time, the two will sit together in the hot seat, where cooperation, not conflict, will be the key to success.

In this special edition of Millionaire, celebrities pair up to answer a series of increasingly difficult trivia questions in hopes of winning up to one million dollars for a charity of their choice. This format not only tests knowledge and teamwork but also brings out the humor, chemistry, and often surprising intelligence of celebrity guests. Given their long comedic history, fans are expecting nothing short of fireworks from the Kimmel–Damon pairing. The big question: Will their feud get in the way of their gameplay, or will it fuel them to victory?

Jimmy Kimmel, a veteran comedian and host, is no stranger to the game show scene. In fact, he hosted the 2020 revival of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, bringing a fresh sense of humor and warmth to the program during its pandemic-era reboot. Matt Damon, on the other hand, is better known for his film work — including his Oscar-winning writing for Good Will Hunting and blockbuster roles in the Bourne franchise — but he’s also proven to be a sharp, quick-witted presence on talk shows and in interviews. The dynamic between the two is expected to oscillate between banter and brilliance, as they navigate their way through the game’s iconic 15-question structure.

Their appearance is part of a larger initiative by ABC to reenergize classic television formats by infusing them with modern celebrity culture and viral appeal. Other duos appearing this season include Ken Jennings with Matt Damon (in a separate episode), Kal Penn with Jameela Jamil, and Adam Devine with Anders Holm. But the Kimmel-Damon matchup is uniquely anticipated due to their decade-plus faux rivalry that has delighted viewers and generated millions of views online.

Aside from entertainment, the charitable aspect of the show adds a layer of meaning to the proceedings. Both Kimmel and Damon are actively involved in various philanthropic causes — Damon through his global water access initiative, Water.org, and Kimmel through numerous children’s health and education charities. While the banter may be biting, the goal is generous.

As the premiere approaches, anticipation continues to build. Will the mock feud finally end in unity, or will the pressure of the hot seat reignite old flames? One thing is certain: this reunion is not to be missed. With comedy, competition, and charity all in the mix, Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon’s appearance on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire might just become a highlight of 2025 television.
