Tom Jones, the legendary Welsh-born singer, known for his dramatic tenor voice and captivating stage presence, first rose to fame in the 60s thanks to catchy songs such as “It’s Not Unusual” and “Delilah,” to name a few. However, the singer was recently forced to cancel one such show due to health concerns.

Tom Jones Cancels Concert After Contracting Respiratory Infection

Music icon Tom Jones recently alarmed fans by announcing that he was canceling an upcoming concert. The “What’s New Pussycat” singer made the startling revelation just hours before he was set to take the stage in Bremen, Germany, on Tuesday, July 22. Jones revealed the reason for the sudden cancellation on his Instagram page, which boasts over 700k followers. The crooner wrote: “Unfortunately, I must postpone my show this evening, as I’ve contracted an upper respiratory infection that needs treatment and rest. I know this is really disappointing and will cause inconvenience to you all, and I’m very sorry about that.” The singer added that the concert is now being postponed until Monday, July 28, as he takes time to recuperate.

As fans are sure to know, Jones is currently on the road for a UK and European tour titled “Ages & Stages,” with Germany being the last stop on the European tour. Two performances in Wales at the end of August will conclude the UK tour. On June 7, the star celebrated his 85th birthday, marking the occasion with a celebration on The Voice, where he serves as one of the coaches.

And as fans and celebrities alike continue to wish Jones a speedy recovery on social media, this is unfortunately not the first time Jones has had to cancel concerts due to poor health. As reported by People Magazine, in 2022, Jones revealed that he had viral laryngitis and was forced to cancel an upcoming show in Budapest. In a February 2021 interview with The Sun, Jones revealed the importance of maintaining his health and the unusual secret to his longevity. “I’ve got a 12-pack. But health is very important and that’s a lot of luck. You’ve got to take care of yourself.” The star also added, “In 2030, I am going to be 90 years old. I hang upside down. You know on one of those frames. It’s great. You put your feet in the thing, and you flip, and you hang.”
