Ryan Seacrest Makes An Announcement
Ryan Seacrest Bids an Emotional Farewell to “Live with Kelly and Ryan” — And Passes the Torch to a Familiar Face
After six unforgettable years co-hosting one of America’s most beloved morning shows, Live with Kelly and Ryan, Ryan Seacrest officially announced his departure from the series in a deeply emotional segment that aired earlier this year. The television host, known for his work ethic, charm, and endless energy, revealed that this season would be his last—news that both shocked and saddened longtime viewers.
Seated beside his co-host and close friend Kelly Ripa, Seacrest began the segment with heartfelt gratitude and transparency. “This is something Kelly and I have been talking about for a long time,” he said, his voice laced with emotion. “It was a tough, tough decision.”
Kelly, visibly emotional herself, responded with love and support: “You are a gem. One of my best friends. The greatest part of this entire experience has been that you’ve gone from being a friend to a family member.”
A Bittersweet Goodbye
Seacrest explained that his decision was driven largely by the demands of his schedule and his commitment to American Idol, which tapes in Los Angeles. Hosting two high-profile shows on opposite coasts had begun to take a toll. “Once American Idol starts live later in the spring, I’ll head out to the West Coast,” he explained. “But you’re not getting rid of me completely—I’ll be back to guest host and fill in.”
Though viewers were sad to see him go, Seacrest assured fans that the decision was made with thought, mutual respect, and love for the team behind the show. “There’s nothing like this on television,” he said. “This show comes together because of an incredible family of people… I’ve never seen a show of this caliber wing it so much, and that’s the magic of it.”
The Evolution of a Partnership
Seacrest joined Live in 2017 after Michael Strahan’s departure. What was initially intended to be a three-year stint turned into a six-year partnership, thanks to the chemistry between him and Kelly Ripa and the genuine joy they found in working together.
“I committed to three years,” Seacrest recalled. “But three turned into six because of the genuine fun of being on this show.”
Kelly, known for her quick wit and emotional openness, reminisced about how Seacrest adjusted to East Coast life. “I thought, ‘He’s not going to make it through winter,’” she joked, referencing his massive Canada Goose coat on October 1st of his first year. “But I’m so proud of you. I cheer you on endlessly. I know how exhausting it’s been going back and forth, and I fully understand your decision.”
Passing the Torch—To Her Husband
As the segment progressed, Kelly leaned in and delivered what she called the “shocking twist”: the new co-host would be none other than her real-life husband, actor Mark Consuelos.
“It only makes sense,” Kelly explained. “To bring in somebody that we know and love… an extension of you, if you will.” She described Mark as someone deeply familiar to the staff and audience, and a natural fit for the show’s warm, familial energy. “The only person I can think of that is capable of holding your torch the way you have held it is my husband.”
The announcement was met with gasps and applause in the studio—though some might call it the “weirdest social experiment on national television,” as Kelly joked. Ryan responded with his signature humor: “I can’t wait to watch. Mark has a list of grievances to bring to the show already!”
Mark Consuelos, who has frequently guest-hosted the show over the years, was already set to appear the following day to talk about the transition. Kelly teased that he’s “been preparing” and is already running his future segments by her.
A Career Defined by Connection
Seacrest’s legacy on Live goes far beyond witty banter and polished delivery. His rapport with Kelly, the crew, and the audience turned what could have been a transitional era into one of the show’s strongest and most consistent runs.
“You are family,” Kelly told him, holding back tears. “We love you. We’re so proud of you. There is nobody like you. And I hope and pray that you’ll keep us informed about your personal life.” She added, half-jokingly, “I promise I’ll barely announce anything on the show.”
What stood out in the segment wasn’t just the announcement itself—it was the genuine affection and deep respect between Seacrest and Ripa. They shared laughs, memories, and a few choked-up moments that reminded viewers just how real their friendship has become over the years.
“I respect you so much,” Seacrest told Kelly. “I look up to you. And I love that we’ve been able to connect with people every day in their kitchens, their living rooms, and their workplaces. There’s nothing else like it.”
What’s Next for Ryan?
As Seacrest exits Live, he will refocus on his work with American Idol, which remains one of the most iconic reality shows in American television. Beyond that, Seacrest continues to run multiple media ventures, including his foundation, and serves as a producer and entrepreneur in both radio and television spaces.
And while he’s stepping away from the daily grind of early morning tapings in New York, Ryan made it clear: this is not goodbye forever.
“I’ll be back,” he promised, smiling at the studio audience. “Don’t start changing the dressing room signs just yet.”
