Viewers tuning into The Daily Show tonight to see Jon Stewart’s take on this weekend’s U.S. strikes on Iran are in for a disappointment.

As of last Thursday, the show is officially on hiatus—beginning a two-week summer break. New episodes are scheduled to resume on Monday, July 7th.

Though The Daily Show is the only nightly late-night show off tonight, the rest of the field will soon follow. The Late Show with Stephen ColbertJimmy Kimmel Live! The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and Late Night with Seth Meyers are all set to pause production next week as they bookend the July 4th holiday with their own two-week breaks.

That nearly-industry-wide vacation window means that when The Daily Show returns on July 7th, it will be the only traditional late-night show in production that week. (Real Time with Bill Maher aired its last episode in a month this past Friday, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is set to start its own summer break after its next episode, airing June 28th.)

It’s not uncommon for late night to go dark around major holidays, and July 4th is traditionally one of the quietest weeks in late-night. Still, with a volatile international news cycle unfolding and plenty of political weirdness here at home, the timing is bound to leave some viewers hungry.

Fans of The Daily Show will need to adjust their nightly routines for the next couple of weeks as the iconic satirical news program officially goes on a short hiatus. According to Comedy Central, The Daily Show will be off the air for two weeks and is scheduled to return with fresh episodes on July 7th.

The timing of this break doesn’t come as a complete surprise to longtime viewers. Over the years, the show has built a reputation for taking short pauses around major holidays or during the summer, giving both the writing team and its rotating hosts a chance to recharge and regroup. This tradition dates back to Jon Stewart’s era, when the fast-paced demands of producing sharp, timely satire four nights a week often required breaks to maintain quality.

The current version of The Daily Show has been riding a wave of renewed popularity, especially since the return of Jon Stewart as a regular contributor and occasional host earlier this year. Many fans credit his legendary comedic timing and fearless political commentary for injecting fresh energy into the long-running franchise. Even so, the new production schedule has remained intense, given the show’s commitment to addressing breaking news in real time with biting humor.

Comedy Central reassured fans on social media that this is merely a planned pause, not an abrupt or indefinite break. The network emphasized that the writing staff and on-air talent are taking a well-deserved breather to prepare for the next slate of episodes. With a presidential election heating up and a relentless 24-hour news cycle, the producers want to ensure the team stays sharp and ready to tackle whatever headlines come next.

Viewers shouldn’t worry about a lack of content during the hiatus either. Comedy Central typically fills the slot with classic reruns of fan-favorite segments and interviews. For many fans, this is a welcome chance to revisit unforgettable moments, whether it’s Jon Stewart’s legendary monologues, Trevor Noah’s witty takes on global affairs, or hilarious correspondent skits that poke fun at everyday absurdities.

Industry insiders note that The Daily Show remains a cornerstone of Comedy Central’s late-night lineup. Despite constant changes in the late-night landscape — including the end of some rival shows and an audience that increasingly turns to streaming and social media for news — The Daily Show has proven remarkably resilient. Its unique blend of comedy and journalism continues to draw loyal fans from multiple generations.

When the show returns on July 7th, viewers can expect an immediate dive back into the whirlwind of American and global politics. With election campaigns intensifying and political scandals never far from the headlines, the show’s sharp, irreverent style promises to deliver plenty of viral moments and pointed commentary.

In the meantime, fans have taken to social media to express both disappointment and support for the break. Some say they’ll miss their daily dose of comedic sanity in a world that feels more chaotic than ever. Others point out that the brief break is more than deserved for a crew that churns out high-quality satire night after night.

So, if your nightly ritual involves catching up with The Daily Show before bed, take this as your cue to revisit old episodes or catch up on highlights you may have missed. And mark your calendar for July 7th, when Jon Stewart and the team will be back — rested, recharged, and ready to take on the madness of the news cycle once again.
