Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson’s Ex-Husband, Dies at 48

Mr. Blackstock’s death followed a three-year battle with cancer. An established talent manager in the country music world, he was the son of Reba McEntire’s ex-husband.

Brandon Blackstock, a talent manager and the ex-husband of the Grammy Award-winning singer and Daytime Emmy-winning talk show host Kelly Clarkson, has died. He was 48.

His death, which followed a three-year battle with cancer, was announced on Thursday in a social media post by Starstruck Entertainment, a Nashville-based talent-management company owned by Mr. Blackstock’s father, Narvel Blackstock, where Mr. Blackstock was an executive.

Mr. Blackstock was also well established in the world of country music. He managed the country singer Blake Shelton as well as the band Rascal Flatts. His father, who founded Starstruck Entertainment in 1988, was married to the country music star and actress Reba McEntire from 1989 to 2015.

The announcement of Mr. Blackstock’s death came one day after Ms. Clarkson said she would be postponing the August dates of her residency in Las Vegas, citing her ex-husband’s health and their two children.

“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” Ms. Clarkson said in a statement shared to her Instagram on Wednesday.

Ms. Clarkson had been scheduled to begin a residency, “Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions,” at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in July, but she delayed its start because of vocal issues, she said on Instagram in July.

Ms. Clarkson and Mr. Blackstock began dating in 2012 and married in Tennessee in 2013. Mr. Blackstock was an executive producer on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” from 2019 to 2020, according to IMDb. She filed for divorce in 2020, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

Brandon Blackstock was born Dec. 16, 1976, in Fort Worth, Texas. He is survived by his four children. Mr. Blackstock had a daughter, River, and a son, Remington, with Ms. Clarkson, as well as two children from a previous marriage. He is also survived by his father and his mother, Elisa Gayle Ritter.
