American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest has one thing he can’t do after taking over Wheel of Fortune
American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest has admitted he isn’t allowed to do one thing when he becomes Wheel of Fortune’s new host.
Ryan Seacrest knows he’s filling big shoes, taking over hosting duties of Wheel of Fortune from Pat Sajak.
He also knows the one thing he can’t do when he officially becomes host.
“He has made such an impact on this whole country. He’s become a companion, a best friend to a lot of people,” Seacrest told Fox News.
“I have so much respect and admiration for what he’s been able to do. He’s a total pro. No one’s smoother and seamless than Pat.”
Seacrest also made it clear that while he’s looking to put his own spin on the classic game show, there is one thing he won’t do: “No one can replace him. I just want to come in and continue to have fun with those contestants.”
Sajak announced his retirement from Wheel of Fortune last June after 43 years and 41 seasons with the ABC game show.
Fans of the long-running game show saw their first glimpse of Ryan hosting the series as he and co-host Vanna White debuted on screens for a special ad.
In the clip, the newly single 42-year-old could be seen looking around the set in amazement as Vanna exclaims: “Look’s like you’re ready Ryan.”
The new host looked sharp for his first appearance and wore a smart black suit with a white shirt, and spotted black and white tie.
Viewers were impressed with the brief glimpse of Ryan’s debut and took to the comments with praise.
One person wrote: “Welcome To The Show Ryan & I’m Looking Forward To Watch Wheel Of Fortune Season 42 This Fall 2024!”
Another remarked: “Get ready Wheel Watchers Ryan Secrest is taking over as the new host of Wheel of Fortune this Fall!”
A third shared: “I am so excited about Ryan.”
While a fifth viewer bid farewell to the 77-year-old and added: “So long Pat and hello Ryan.”
Ahead of his new hosting duties, Ryan admitted he was feeling the pressure and told People: “Well, no one can ever do what Pat has done. He is incredible.
“He has made that show just something so very special for so long, and he has done such a seamless, remarkable job so no one can be him.”
“So do I feel pressure? Sure,” the TV exec continued. “People love watching him. I want them to keep love watching it, and I hope to do a great job as well.”
Although Seacrest is nervous, he added that he’s spent his whole life unknowingly preparing for the hosting gig.
“I’ve been watching the show all my life, and I’ve been watching it as much as I can as an adult and as a child,” Seacrest admitted.
“I think that this is a show that means so much to a lot of people. It’s a part of their lives, they like to get together at the end of the day and try and solve the puzzles. And for me, it’s a chance to give away cash and prizes and work with the legendary Vanna White,” the radio personality added.
