‘Alaskan Bush People’ Matriarch Ami Brown Gains 30 Pounds After Beating Cancer

Alaskan Bush People matriarch Ami Brown is lucky to be alive! Six months ago, the 54-year-old mother of seven revealed that she was given a less than three percent chance of survival after being diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer. But after fighting a horrific battle that included two rounds of radiation and chemotherapy, the longtime wife of Billy Brown, 64, revealed in a shocking new interview with People Magazine that she is now cancer free! Click through seven unbelievable photos of Ami, as RadarOnline.com reveals how she beat the deadly disease.

Ami was diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer last spring, which forced her to leave Alaska to undergo treatment at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

Following a second round of treatment, Ami went in for a follow-up appointment on Dec. 21. “I was expecting great news. I could just feel it,” Ami said in the interview with People. But the news she got wasn’t only great – it was unbelievable. According to docs, all signs of cancer throughout her chest and back had disappeared completely! “The doctors were just as shocked as we were,” husband Billy told the magazine.

As previously reported, while undergoing radiation Ami refused to eat anything and her weight had dropped down to a staggering 77 pounds! “To take a sip of water just hurt so bad and I couldn’t eat anything. It progressed in strength, the hurting. I went from ice cream and mashed potatoes and stuff to nothing at all,” Ami said in the interview.

Luckily, that has changed, as Ami said that she is now a healthy 104 pounds and wakes up in the middle of the night to sneak a snack! “Today I am enjoying chicken, salmon, meatloaf, rice and enchiladas. It was so hard just to get to 80 lbs. and then 90, to actually get to 100 was incredible,” Ami added.

Although she is moving on with her life, Ami said that she will never forget what she went through. “Just this past week I was thinking back about how very bad I really was. Entering that road was so dark and I was fearful. You hear the words chemo and radiation and you’re staring down that dark road and I want other people to know that it’s petrifying but you need to keep a little light. You have to stay positive and keep God with you because he really does perform miracles,” Ami told the outlet.
