Roger Federer: The former tennis player’s assets are twice that of Djokovic and Federer combined

Nadal, Djokovic or Federer? Who is the real GOAT?

Former professional tennis player Ion Tiriac is worth twice as much as Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer combined.

Many fans believe that current legends like Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic are the richest tennis players in the world. But former athlete Ion Tiriac is the player with the biggest net worth.

According to Forbes, Djokovic is worth £189.3 million, while Federer is worth £453 million. These figures are far behind Tiriac, who is worth £1.6 billion ($2 billion), twice as much as the two legends combined.

Federer retired in 2022. His wealth is partly due to prize money, estimated at £102.4 million ($130 million), in addition to a series of long-term sponsorship and advertising deals with big names such as KIA, Nike, Lanvin Colognes, Quely, PokerStars and Emporio Armani.

Djokovic is still playing tennis at the age of 37. He has amassed £140m in prize money. His deals with big brands such as Adidas, Lacoste, Mercedes-Benz and Seiko also help him pocket a large sum each year.

For his part, Tiriac has made most of his money through his business acumen. He founded his own bank in Romania.

Now 85, he heads the Tiriac Group, which has interests in real estate, cars, financial services and more. After retiring from tennis in the 1970s, Tiriac turned to coaching, working with some of the world’s top athletes, including Guillermo Vilas, Marat Safin and Boris Becker.

He began his investment career in the 1980s. His wealth is evident in his collection of more than 400 cars and motorbikes.

In 2021, he built a house called “Tiriac Collection” to display luxury cars. It is known that after receiving great attention, Tiriac operated this house as a small museum, where people can visit. It gathers limited edition cars, super rare lines of major brands, many of which were produced in the last century.

During his professional tennis career, Tiriac won 34 titles in singles. His best achievement at a major tournament was the quarterfinals of the 1968 French Open.

In doubles, the Romanian performed better. He won the men’s doubles championship at the 1970 French Open and reached the final of the 1970 US Open. That same year, he also reached the semifinals of Wimbledon with compatriot Ilie Nastase.
