Jennifer Aniston believes Hollywood is ‘dying’ because there are ‘no more movie stars’
The Friends star says social media is creating a new wave of celebrities and she hates using all those apps.
Jennifer Aniston is not ‘friends’ with social media.
The Hollywood A-lister sat down with Allure for a wide-ranging chat where the Friends star revealed she despises loads of those apps.
“I hate social media,” Aniston said. “I’m not good at it.”
The Marley & Me actor launched her own Instagram account just before Covid-19 kicked off and the internet went into such overdrive that the app actually crashed for a little bit.
But, despite her dizzying popularity on the platform, Aniston couldn’t care one iota.
She revealed: “It’s torture for me. The reason I went on Instagram was to launch [her hair-care line LolaVie].”
“Then the pandemic hit and we didn’t launch. So I was just stuck with being on Instagram. It doesn’t come naturally.”
Aniston went on to tell her interviewer Danielle Pergament – who also had grown up before the social media age – just how lucky they both were to grow up before the phenomenon of social networking was a thing.
“I’m really happy that we got to experience growing up, being a teenager, being in our 20s without this social media aspect,” Aniston said.
She continued: “Look, the internet, great intentions, right? Connect people socially, social networking.”
“It goes back to how young girls feel about themselves, compare and despair.”
In the same interview, Pergament revealed she had been brainstorming some clever things to discuss with Aniston with a few of her friends.

This meant she had a little collection of text message ideas to mull over with the movie star.
One text from a pal that she read out to the Friends alum was: “No one’s ever going to be famous the way she is. That kind of mass-fame phenomenon burning so bright for so long, it’s just not achievable today. She’s like a silent-film star among a generation of TikTok dips**ts.”
Adding even more credence to her hatred for social media, Aniston agreed.
“Whoa. Oh, that just gave me chills,” Aniston said, before she added: “I feel like [Hollywood is] dying.”
“There are no more movie stars. There’s no more glamour.”
So there you go. Aniston hates social media and it is killing off Hollywood’s glitz and glam.
All the more reason to disconnect, then. Or all the more reason to tweet about it, depending on your outlook.
