Carlos Alcaraz suggests how high Lorenzo Musetti can reach in the ATP rankings after beating him in the Monte Carlo Masters final

Carlos Alcaraz was able to get the better of Lorenzo Musetti in the Monte Carlo Masters final.

Alcaraz beat a hampered Musetti in the final, with the Italian struggling physically after winning the first set.

After winning only eight points in the deciding set, Musetti withdrew from his next ATP tournament in a bid to recuperate for a busy clay court season.

Despite finishing runner-up in disappointing fashion, Musetti has been rewarded with a career-high ranking.

Carlos Alcaraz says how high Lorenzo Musetti can reach in the ATP rankings

As a result of reaching his first ATP Masters 1000 final, Musetti is now at his career-high ranking of world number 11.

Alcaraz predicted big things for Musetti in the on-court ceremony, and was later asked in his press conference whether he thought the Monte Carlo Masters runner-up could be a mainstay in the top 10.

The 21-year-old continued his praise for Musetti, backing him to continue his rise up the ATP rankings if he continues doing what he is doing.

“Well I am not surprised that Lorenzo is pretty close to be top 10, he has potential to be there,” said Alcaraz. “I mean he beat top 10 players many, many times.

“He faced the best players in the world and he beat them and he can play really tough matches, match after match after match and that’s what the top 10 do during the whole year.

So I think he has the weapons, he has the level, he’s learning as I saw he mentioned before. He’s learning how to suffer you know in the matches, I think that’s what he said and he’s doing great.

“I said you know in the the speech that I know he’s doing the right things on the court, off the court. which is important to make and reach a great level. So, we are going to see Lorenzo Musetti in the top 10 I think, I’m sure about it, and we’ll see Lorenzo Musetti fighting for great things in our sport.”

What is Lorenzo Musetti’s main goal for the 2025 season?

Musetti also spoke about his new status in the ATP rankings in his own press conference, with the Wimbledon semi-finalist targeting the top 10 as his main goal for the 2025 season.

“I take a lot of positive stuff. I have reached some of my goals,” Musetti said about his week at the Monte Carlo Masters. “Of course we are already, focusing on other goals and trying to be ambitious and trying to motivate myself of course, because the Top 10 is not there yet.

“That was probably the main goal of the season right now. But we are close enough to keep fighting, keep dreaming.”

Musetti is only 15 points behind world number 10 Casper Ruud in the ATP rankings, who is defending 500 points this week from winning the Barcelona Open title last week.

As a result, Musetti is currently set to complete his goal in the live rankings, but he is no longer in control of that after withdrawing from the ATP 500 tournament.
