Wheel of Fortune viewers have been left divided over Ryan Seacrest’s hosting style, with many pointing out a tradition that they feel has been broken since he took over
Wheel of Fortune enthusiasts are all abuzz regarding Ryan Seacrest’s hosting approach, especially his choice to skip the customary final spin.
This deviation has stirred controversy among Wheel of Fortune purists. A viewer, perplexed by the break with tradition, posed a question that sparked a discussion: “Why doesn’t Ryan Seacrest do the final spin? Shouldn’t it be tradition that the host does the final spin? I’m assuming he can’t reach the wheel? ” To clarify, one fan commented, “Pat [Sajak] used to do the final spin, but at some point, it was the contestant in command of the wheel.”
Building on that clarification, another added, “Pat stopped doing the final spin a few seasons back.”
Echoing this sentiment, a third chimed in with, “Same reason Pat stopped. You must be new here,” The alteration appears to have originated in Season 39 when contestants began handling the final spin – an adjustment to which some fans are still acclimating.

Seacrest took over hosting duties after Pat Sajak retired following an epic 40-year stint. At the time of his debut as host in September, Seacrest shared his appreciation: “I’m truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak. He makes it look so easy and smooth and seamless. He’s remarkable,” reports the Express US.
However, not everyone is enamored with the changes. One fan expressed online dissatisfaction with the current state of the show: “Does anyone besides me feel like the entire new WoF is just over the top? ” They elaborated with their observation: “From the set, to the contestants’ outfits, and even their behavior. It feels unnaturally ‘extra.’”.
Echoing similar sentiments, another viewer critiqued the show: “Wheel of Fortune is following the trend of overproduction and fake emotion. You feel dizzy and overwhelmed from all the cuts and noises from contestants. You can barely follow the puzzle.”
Fans joked that the Wheel of Fortune host couldn’t read after pointing out that Ryan that he never reads the final prize clue out loud.
One Reddit user wrote: “He just flips the gold envelope open, looks down at it, and then at the contestant. So you can see that the puzzle was worth $40,000 BUT HE NEVER says the dollar amount of the prize out loud.”
