Serena Williams was a successful tennis player, and she’s also successful in her business endeavours after retiring from professional tennis.
During her tennis career, Serena Williams won 73 WTA Tour-level titles, out of which 23 were majors. She spent 319 weeks as the World No. 1 player, and enjoyed a legendary career like no one else on the WTA Tour.
It’s safe to say that Williams was used to winning during her tennis career. That was also maybe one of the reasons why she chose to pursue a career in business after ending her career on a tennis court.
Also during her tennis career, Serena didn’t shy away from big business deals, but she found her true passion in her own brand, WYN Beauty, after she retired from the sport.
Williams is staying active, and while it is a different activity than what she was used to, it still takes plenty of time to run a business. Now, she doesn’t have to spend countless hours on the tennis courts and in the gym, but she has to take care of important phone calls and meetings.
Recently, Serena’s WYN Beauty had a pop-up event in Los Angeles, and during the event, the retired American tennis player spoke to People. She admitted that taking care of WYN Beauty costs her a lot of time with her family.
“Yeah, it definitely costs a lot. I’m here [in California] without my kids, and that’s a big cost for me because I spend a lot of time with my children, and they’re very attached to me, which a part of me loves. So, it’s always some cost.”
“My whole life I’ve had to kind of weigh, like, ‘If I wanna win a championship, well what is that going to cost me?’ It’s going to cost me time with my family, it’s going to cost me friends, it’s going to cost me relationships. And they’re very expensive. You have to decide if it’s worth it for you.”
Williams was also asked whether she planned to start any other businesses. However, having the experience of running WYN Beauty, she joked that she doesn’t plan to launch any other business.
“I’m done! I’m not launching anything else like this. I just am happy doing WYN Beauty. And I’m happy being a mom and I’m happy with my venture company, and that’s a lot. We’re good!”
Serena also spoke about the brand, saying that while WYN Beauty is a makeup company, they don’t want to focus only on physical beauty.
“It’s super important for me to share that beauty is definitely on the inside. And then anything externally is just an enhancement of who you are. So our beauty and what we do at WYN Beauty enhances your inside beauty.”
