What Serena Williams once claimed her and Venus will do after they both decide to retire from tennis

In 2014, Serena Williams won her sixth and final US Open title after defeating Caroline Wozniacki in the final.

Williams, who clinched a maiden Grand Slam crown in 1999 at Flushing Meadows, tied Chris Evert‘s Open Era record at the event that year, and became an 18-time major champion.

The American did not drop a set throughout the entire tournament, and conceded no more than three games in each set.

It was a dominant two weeks for the then-world number one, who held onto her position at the top of the WTA rankings following the conclusion of the event.

After the final, Williams was asked about the success she and her sister, Venus Williams, have enjoyed in their careers.

What Serena Williams said she would do with Venus Williams when they retire

A reporter said to Williams in her post-match press conference: ” What you accomplished certainly is an amazing feat, but also what Venus has accomplished is quite amazing.

“When the two of you get together and you’re looking at one another, what kind of conversations and what kind of feelings are exchanged? Can you believe what the hell you two have done together with this game?”

She responded: “We just say that… we say things like we deserved this win because we worked hard, but we don’t really.

“I think we’ll have those conversations when we retire, and hopefully that will be a long time from now.

“Right now, we just really want to be in there. We want to win matches. We want to win titles. We want to do really well. We just don’t talk about that right now.”

Serena Williams response when asked if she was the greatest of all time

When asked about being deemed the greatest women’s player of all time, Williams replied: “I have heard it, obviously, but I don’t think about it.

“Like I said, I’m just a simple individual who wants to win titles and wants to play tennis.

Serena Williams’ Grand Slam titles
“I want to do really well, and I love the game. The reason I play is to sit at the end of the day and hold the trophy, or stand and hold the trophy. For me, that’s my joy.”

Williams finished her career with 23 major titles to her name, which ranks second all-time in both men’s and women’s singles, trailing only Margaret Court and Novak Djokovic.
