Serena Williams recently shared a sarcastic yet heartwarming post about her daughter Olympia growing up. The post prompted endearing reactions from Andrea Preti, the tennis legend’s sister Venus’ fiance, as well as Caroline Wozniacki, another icon of the sport who Williams shares a close friendship with.
On Thursday, October 30, Serena Williams took to Instagram and shared a post consisting of seven pictures. The first two pictures, featuring the former No. 1 and Olympia, appeared quite recent. The subsequent pictures though, featured Olympia during the eight-year-old’s younger years. The last one was a heartfelt message for the young one from her legendary mother, which read:
“Dear Daughter, I hope you can always hear my voice saying “you’ve got this” when the world feels too loud. Love, Mom”
The Instagram post itself was captioned by Serena Williams:
“At first they are sweet, then they get sweeter… Or something like that.”
Williams’ elder sister Venus Williams’ fiance Andrea Preti soon entered the comments and said hi to both the 23-time singles Major champion and her eight-year-old daughter Olympia, who was born in September 2017.
“Hi girls ❤️❤️❤️,” Preti wrote.
Another former No. 1, Caroline Wozniacki, also shared her enthusiasm for the post in the comments with three red heart emojis.

Serena Williams once laid bare “normal life” desire for daughter Olympia

Olympia happens to be the first child of Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian. A few months after her birth in 2017, Williams sat down for an interview with Vogue. Here, she stated her intention to not push Olympia to pursue a tennis career. According to Williams, she herself didn’t have the opportunity to lead a “normal life” when she was a child, but she wished that Olympia does.
Speaking up about her horror when she found Olympia glued to the TV watching Argentine former ATP star Juan Martin del Potro, Williams told Vogue:
“I was distraught when I saw her. I would hate her to have to deal with comparisons or expectations. It’s so much work, and I’ve given up so much. I don’t regret it, but it’s like Sliding Doors: Go through a different door and lead a different life. I’d like her to have a normal life. I didn’t have that.”
In 2023, almost a year after her tearful retirement from tennis at the US Open, Williams welcomed her second child with Ohanian, daughter Adira.
