Drew Carey has seen it all, but this might be a first. A contestant on The Price Is Right suddenly quit midway through the show, leaving the audience confused. Contestant Kathy Young disappeared from The Price Is Right after losing out on a car, and now fans are worried.

The Price Is Right is a game show airing on CBS. After more than 50 years on air, The Price Is Right has featured contestants from all over the country. Season 53 wrapped up at the end of June. Young was featured in the second-to-last episode, but The Price Is Right has let worried fans know that she has been asked back.

Young was visibly excited when she was called up to be the third contestant in a pricing game. She had won workout equipment and was able to play Gridlock, a game where players guess the price of a car. After multiple rounds, Young chose the wrong numbers and lost out on the car, which was disappointing to see, as it was clear that Young was excited to be there. Carey cut to a commercial break after letting the audience know that Young would be back to spin for Showcase Showdown.

But when The Price Is Right returned, Kathy was nowhere to be found. For the first time, two players were competing in the Showcase showdown. Carey announced that Kathy had an emergency and would not be able to continue, but it was unclear what the emergency was. The remaining two contestants wished her well and continued the game. After the winner was announced, Carey once again mentioned Young by saying, “Sending our best to Kathy. We hope she’s ok!” and The Price Is Right let the audience know she would still receive her prize. However, with no further information, fans were concerned.

The Price Is Right provided some insight into what happened, but fans are still speculating. In The Price Is Right’s statement to TV Insider, they said, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, one of our contestants was unfortunately unable to complete her time on a recent episode of The Price Is Right.” This was all the information offered to maintain Young’s privacy. The statement continued with, “We are pleased to share that Kathy has been invited to return as our special member of our audience for a future show taping. We look forward to the opportunity to welcome her back and extend our sincere thanks to Kathy.” The official statement seems to indicate that everything with Young worked out in the end, and she could return to The Price Is Right as early as Season 54.

Viewers on social media hoped Young was okay. One Reddit user pointed out that this was the first time they had seen the Showcase Showdown with two people and hoped it was nothing serious. In the comments of TV Insider’s article, one commenter claimed they were at the taping and that Young received an injury while spinning the Big Wheel. Whatever the case may be, The Price Is Right kept Young’s emergency as private as possible.

Unexpected Exits Are Rare on ‘The Price Is Right’

The Price Is Right has had a consistent format since the Bob Barker days. Since players are called up from the audience and each episode is so brief, there isn’t much room for players to quit. Every so often, a contestant will do poorly and be asked to leave. Most recently, a player named Elvira was asked to leave the stage after being unable to complete the challenge properly. Elvira was asked to spin the wheel at least one full rotation but was unsuccessful the majority of the time. Elvira was given the opportunity to spin for a fifth time and lost the game, and Carey kindly ushered her off the stage. Most players are just waiting for their shot to be on The Price Is Right, so early exits like Young’s emergency are rare, but there are always extraordinary circumstances.

Viewers’ shock at Young’s exit might be calmed slightly by The Price Is Right‘s offer to bring her back. After a historic Showcase Showdown, fans are hoping that, after whatever emergency pulled her away, Young is safe and healthy.
