Serena Williams, mother of two, opens up on why going out has become ‘difficult’

Serena Williams admits going out has become tricky for her at this stage of her life simply because she has two young daughters and there are parenting duties that come with it.

In 2017, Williams welcomed her first child when Olympia was born. On May 1st, 2023, the former 23-time Grand Slam champion announced that she and her husband Alexis Ohanian were expecting their second child. And a couple of months, baby girl Adira was born.

This past weekend, Williams attended the Baby2Baby Gala in Los Angeles. PEOPLE magazine caught up with the 44-year-old and asked her if it was difficult to find some time to attend the event.

Williams: I don’t like to leave my kids, we have our nighttime routine

“Well, tonight was definitely a little more difficult. I don’t like to leave my kids. I have a nighttime routine with them every day. I love Baby2Baby because they’re really just about kids and helping so many babies and so many mothers as well. They’re so supportive, so I just feel like it wasn’t easy, but it’s also nice. I get to come out and get to get dressed up, put on a little lip and have some fun with some amazing people,” the American tennis icon told PEOPLE.

After welcoming her first child, Williams battled post-partum depression and she was very open about it.

“Being postpartum is the most sensitive time I’ve ever gone through in my life. Learning a new version of myself is very difficult,” the former seven-time Wimbledon champion said in one of her past interviews.

However, on several occasions, Williams noted that her goal was to become a mother one day and that she had no regrets about it.

Williams retired from pro tennis after the 2022 US Open. In early 2023, she admitted in one interview that she felt “tempted” to return because she felt she could still play at the highest level, but ultimately stayed firm in her decision.
