The Reddit co-founder took to social media to celebrate his wife’s latest milestone with a heartfelt comment.

The award, bestowed annually by the Princess of Asturias Foundation, is among Spain’s highest international distinctions. It honors individuals or institutions that have made exceptional contributions to science, culture, and sports.

Williams joins an elite group of past winners, including Rafael Nadal, Michael Schumacher, and Iker Casillas, further solidifying her place among the all-time greats in global sports.

The recognition celebrates her dominance on the tennis court and acknowledges her broader influence on equality, empowerment, and social change. For Ohanian, who has long supported his wife’s endeavors on and off the court, seeing her recognized on such a global stage marked a proud moment.

At the award ceremony held at the historic Teatro Campoamor, Williams received a standing ovation from the audience as she walked to the stage. Dressed in a striking, one-shouldered, floor-length red gown, she exuded confidence and grace. She completed her look with matching red heels, a bold lip color, and curled blonde hair.

Later, Williams shared a series of photos from the night on Instagram, captioning the post: “Feeling deeply honored to receive the Princess of Asturias Award for Sports in Northern Spain. This award has been presented to so many remarkable individuals over the years, and to be recognized as part of that legacy is truly humbling. After Williams posted photos from the grand ceremony in Oviedo, Spain, Ohanian adorably commented, “Officially a princess!!! You deserve it all.”

The jury’s official statement lauded Williams for her “extraordinary sporting career and competitive spirit.” With 23 Grand Slam singles titles, four Olympic gold medals, and 73 career singles trophies, Williams’ résumé is one of the most decorated in tennis history.

Beyond her athletic achievements, her commitment to advancing gender equity and supporting diverse entrepreneurs through her investment firm, Serena Ventures, was also praised. According to Forbes, the firm has backed over 70 startups, 78 % of which are led by women or people of color.

Williams has also expanded her influence in sports ownership as a stakeholder in Angel City FC and the Los Angeles Golf Club, a TGL franchise co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
