Sometimes they are trolling each other, sometimes they are just thick as thieves; you just don’t know what’s coming next. But one thing is for sure. The Williams sisters are sibling goals. However, this time, Venus Williams didn’t see it coming as Serena hit her elder sister with the age-old moniker that she got on the tennis court. This time, however, they are far away from the sport that made them, and the sisters are just having a conversation.

Actually, that is the theme of the new venture from the Williams sisters—a biweekly podcast called Stockton Street, where the two sisters talk about their lives, professional, personal, and everything else. And that is where it all happened. Venus Williams dropped the update from her X handle on October 7 with the caption: “Quality time = @serenawilliams finding out I am a robot 🤖”.

The clip she shared started like any other sweet heart-to-heart. “I thought I knew pretty much almost everything about you, but even moments where we’re in the same space at the same time doing the same thing that I thought I knew what you were thinking, but I didn’t know.” As the big sister, Venus loves to get to know what’s going on in her little sister’s mind. “And so I think in this process, we’re discovering so much about each other. It’s actually like really quality time with each other.”

Well, Serena Williams agrees with her. “I think it’s good, you know. I love having this quality time with you,” the 23-time Grand Slam Champion went on. And keeping a straight face, she added, “Like, I never knew you were a robot.” How so? Well, Venus was left plain blank and looking for answers.

When Serena Williams said, “That explains so much,” Venus had to ask, “It does? Like what?” Well, Serena didn’t keep up the charade and confessed, “I was just being mean. Sorry.” Well, Venus Williams didn’t mind. “I take it as a compliment. I think being robotic is amazing.” And Serena agreed, too: “It is.” In fact, the robot label has long been associated with Venus Williams for the unflappable, emotionless demeanor she kept on the court.

And even in her personal sphere, she has acknowledged being like a robot. In a live chat on Instagram with renowned author Cara Alwill, Venus Williams was asked about her relationship status. She plainly stated, “I’m like this robot. So I don’t think anyone wants to be in a relationship with robots probably that much. And if they do, they probably need to seek the help of some sort. But I’ve been working on being just more open … It has helped me to get more engaged.”

As for Serena Williams’ reason for her sisterly jab, well, this to-and-fro is just how they do. And more often than not, it’s the little sister going after the big sister. Be it making fun of Venus’ shopping or capturing her confused look after a bogus gender reveal by Serena Williams’ husband, Alex Ohanian, Serena loves being a prankster.

In the 2012 documentary entitled Venus and Serena, the latter stated how much she looks up to Venus. “What didn’t I do to try to copy Venus when I was younger? I mean, her favorite color was my favorite color, her favorite animal was my favorite animal, she wanted to win Wimbledon, I wanted to win Wimbledon.” And in her farewell speech in 2022, Serena Williams confessed proudly, “I wouldn’t be Serena if there wasn’t Venus. So thank you, Venus. She’s the only reason that Serena Williams ever existed.”

This new creation, where the two sisters get candid about their life experiences, is not just for fans. Of course, we do get to know about their favorite memories of New York, where they recorded their second episode. But its also involves getting vulnerable and some important life lessons.

“Having a group of people, someone you can rely on to get you through those tough moments, is super important because imagine being at the top of your game, top of the world, literally winning Wimbledon, watching the World Cup, and then something fall on my foot and slicing it,” Serena Williams said in the episode shared on X on October 1st.

And she even shared a key routine that helps her face life with a bout of positivity. “One thing that I started doing recently, cause I had a lot of dark moments in my life recently, when it rains, it pours, I started telling myself that every night, something wonderful is happening to me tomorrow,” she shared in the episode.
