Ryan Seacrest says he’s ‘depressed to be single’ and ‘nuts’ he’s not married at 50

Ryan Seacrest Says He's 'Never Been More Depressed To Be Single'

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest has opened up about his relationship status and admitted he feels ‘depressed’ about still being single at his age

Ryan Seacrest has candidly discussed his relationship status and confessed he feels ‘depressed’ about remaining unmarried at his age.

Following his 50th birthday at the close of last year, Ryan is starting to experience mounting pressure to begin a family and find lasting love.

Although he attempts to maintain privacy regarding his personal affairs, he has enjoyed a series of notable romances throughout the years.

Between 2003 and 2005, he was involved with Shana Wall, spent three years dating Julianne Hough, and has also been romantically connected to Shayna Taylor, Renée Hall, and Aubrey Paige.

Despite never having wed, he has come dangerously close to taking the plunge.

Throughout Season 23 of American Idol, the television host made light of his bachelor status while responding to a performance by contestant Thunderstorm Artis.

“Well done,” Ryan commented in the episode that aired in May 2025. It is a beautiful song with beautiful lyrics. I just printed them out backstage.”

He continued: “‘Your green eyes are soft like the summer, and your touch can put out the embers of my burning heart from that gray December.’ I’ve never been more depressed to be single than right now in this moment.”

Thunderstorm performed Out of the Blue as a tribute to his wife Faith for Mother’s Day.

Several years back, during a conversation with the Wall Street Journal in 2021, he revealed his desire for children someday, though he acknowledged he was simply concentrating on the present at that point. “I haven’t even gone down that path, which is nuts at my age,” Ryan said.

“I think in the last year, it’s become clear to me that yes, I do want to do that. … I want to be available and present.”

Back in 2022, he confessed that his previous romantic connections had been sufficient for him at that time.

“I’m happy. I’m happy in the present moment,” he told Lisa Rinna during a previous installment of Live With Kelly and Ryan. “I don’t think about anything else. Why push it? I think having kids at the right time would be great. I have a fantastic family, a very small family. I have a niece, [my sister] Meredith has a daughter. My parents have been married 52 and a half years, so that’s a high bar. So that’s in my head.”

Ryan also revealed that his mother had “given up” on expecting grandchildren from him.
