The Price Is Right’s host, Drew Carey, defended himself to audience members and viewers at home over a game after stumbling over his words.

During a rerun episode of the hit CBS game show, which first aired in early March, player James, who was celebrating his 24th wedding anniversary, bid the nearest retail price of a fire pit on Contestants Row before making his way to the stage to meet Carey.

Announcer George Gray then revealed to James that he had the chance of winning a trip to New Zealand if he won a game of the Bonus Game.

Carey then had a bit of trouble trying to explain the game to the contestant, stumbling over his words before defending himself as host.

He began, “We’re playing a game called the Bonus Game, now that’s a bonus prize, we already told you the price because you don’t need to know the price.”

Carey then fumbled, “All you have to do is get the right price of the bonus item, that’s ah ah ah, get the right price of the item that has the bonus attached to it.”

Taking a pause, Carey defended, “There, I’ve been doing this for a couple of years. I know how the game goes.”

James then guessed an ab roller was lower than $15, while pruning sheers were lower than $30, a wretainer cleaner was higher than $80, and an iron and steamer was higher than $30.

He was correct on all the items and won the trip.

Later in the episode, Carey thanked player Stephen for putting his face on his T-shirt, joking, “Thanks for putting my face on your shirt. I’m never going to get used to it.”

Then, one of the most controversial players of the show won an impressive prize.

Contestant Travis, an assistant pro at Brentwood Country Club in Los Angeles, was slammed for having an unfair advantage, playing Hole in One for a Hyundai Venue.

“I had no idea we were playing Hole in One by the way,” Carey said as he let the audience know what Travis did for a living. “If you miss this putt, hang your head, bro. Do not show your face in public.”

However, Travis first had to succeed pricing products in ascending order, which he did well enough to earn a short putt.

“No pressure right?” Travis said, before Carey added, “I should sit on your shoulders to make this fair.” Travis made the shot easily and the audience went wild.

The clip of Travis’ win was posted for online fans on Price Is Right’s Instagram months ago. They captioned Travis’ impressive win with, “It’s just another day at the office for this pro!”

In the comments section, fans had mixed reactions to the moment, with one person writing, “How did a professional golfer get to be a contestant? Is he playing for charity on a special edition?”

Another said, “That was scripted. Fake that is so easy. Anyone can make it.” A third pointed out, “They had a lady who coaches golf win on this game a while back…”

However, another fan of the game show argued, “When a show has been on for 50+ years with 6 onstage contestants per episode, awesome coincidences like this happen, and are a helluva lot of fun.”
