Tennis great Serena Williams received a special copy of Taylor Swift’s smash hit album “The Life of a Showgirl.” The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, while sharing the news with her 18 million fans on Instagram, revealed that Taylor’s gift would mean a lot to her 8-year-old daughter, Olympia.

Williams shared her excitement while unboxing a special, autographed copy of Taylor Swift’s album, The Life of a Showgirl, which also carried a personal message from the pop icon herself.

“It is no secret that I am a Swiftie and it is no secret that I literally screamed when I walked into the house and saw this. Thank you, Taylor,” Williams said in a video. “And Olympia is literally gonna lose her mind. So excited. Obviously, we love ‘Cancelled’ – I’m gonna have to record her reaction. She’s gonna go crazy.”

The three-and-a-half-minute track “Cancelled” finds Swift leaning into controversy with playful defiance, singing in the chorus, “Good thing I like my friends cancelled.”

This isn’t the first time Swift has explored the theme of public backlash. Her sixth studio album, Reputation (2017), famously responded to her perceived fall from grace following the massive success of 1989, turning criticism into creative empowerment once again.

Swift and Williams share a supportive friendship, which was evident when the tennis champion defended Swift against booing at the Super Bowl. Taking to X to defend Swift, Williams wrote, “I love you @taylorswift13 dont listen to those booo!!”

Williams also revealed that instead of asking for an autograph for her daughter Olympia that day, she thought it best to wait for another occasion, hinting that the timing simply didn’t feel right amid the tense crowd atmosphere.

Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl is making history right out of the gate. Released on October 3, the album sold an astonishing 2.7 million copies in the U.S. on its first day – a figure that includes both physical and digital purchases across all versions.

According to initial data from Luminate, that number represents Swift’s biggest sales week ever, achieved in just 24 hours, and the second-largest sales week in modern history (since electronic tracking began in 1991).

The only album to top it remains Adele’s 25, which moved 3.378 million copies in its first week back in 2015.

The American songstress also shattered another major record: Showgirl sold 1.2 million vinyl copies on release day alone, setting a new all-time benchmark for the most vinyl albums sold in a single week. That surpasses the previous record, also held by Swift, when her previous album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ sold 859,000 vinyl LPs in its debut week in 2024.

With these figures, The Life of a Showgirl has reaffirmed Swift’s dominance in the modern music industry.
