At 74, Jackie Jackson stands as a pillar in one of music’s most legendary families, carrying forward a legacy that has spanned generations. As the Jackson brothers mark an incredible 50 years of performing together, Jackie reflects on the milestone with a mix of nostalgia, gratitude, and unwavering optimism for what lies ahead.

A Golden Anniversary Marked by Heartache and Hope
The Jackson brothers—Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Jackie—celebrate five decades of chart-topping hits, iconic harmonies, and worldwide superstardom. But this jubilation comes tinged with sorrow following the loss of Tito Jackson in 2024. Despite this profound loss, Jackie shared with BET how the fans’ devotion continues to inspire them: “You look into the crowd and see kids dressed like us—kids who weren’t even born when the music came out. Their parents passed it down. It’s just great music. There’s no cussing. No hard sex. It’s just music the whole family can enjoy, anywhere in the world.”
From Baseball Dreams to Motown Stardom
Born Sigmund Esco Jackson on May 4—coinciding with his mother Katherine Jackson’s 95th birthday—Jackie originally dreamed of a career in baseball. However, when his father Joe Jackson formed the Jackson Brothers, Jackie traded his cleats for microphones. “Motown was everything,” he told the Los Angeles Sentinel. “They taught you everything about the business—routines, stage presence, how to be professional. That stuck with us.”

As the second-oldest sibling, Jackie often took on a leadership role on tour, stepping in as a junior father figure when their parents couldn’t be present. “I kept everybody in line,” he said. “But it wasn’t that hard—this is what we wanted to do.”
Beyond Backup Vocals: A Multifaceted Career
Though Jackie occasionally took the lead on vocals, often echoing younger brother Michael’s voice, he found his niche in backup singing, bass guitar, and songwriting—contributing tracks for sisters Rebbie and LaToya. By the mid-1980s, he expanded his reach as a session musician and producer.
Today, Jackie plays a crucial role in managing Michael Jackson’s estate and preserving the family’s cultural impact. He also serves as executive producer of A&E’s The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty, documenting the group’s enduring story.
Philanthropy and Family First
Jackie’s passions extend far beyond music. He runs several record labels, including his latest, Critically Amused, dedicated to nurturing new artists across diverse genres. Committed to giving back, he supports philanthropic causes focusing on AIDS, cancer, diabetes research, and youth empowerment both in the U.S. and Africa.

At home, Jackie is a proud father of four: musician Siggy Jr. (47), photographer Brandi (43), and 12-year-old twins Jaylen and River. “Our whole family is in the business, but when it’s time to come together, we do,” he shared with the Sentinel. “We don’t always talk about music. We just enjoy each other.”
Looking Ahead: New Jacksons Music on the Horizon
Despite an illustrious past, Jackie is far from finished. He teased that new Jacksons material is already completed. “It’s already finished,” he revealed. “It’s high energy. It’s good stuff. The fans are going to be excited.”
As the Jackson legacy enters its sixth decade, Jackie Jackson remains its steadfast backbone—honoring the past while boldly charting a course for the future, one electrifying performance at a time.
