Jennifer Aniston and I might not run in the same social circles, but we recently discovered a surprising shared interest: a salmon sperm facial.

Yes, you heard that correctly. Though it might sound like a concept from a futuristic skincare story, this treatment, favored by A-listers, is rumored to be the key to Jennifer’s radiant, youthful skin. Kim Kardashian is also a devotee. Naturally, I couldn’t resist trying it myself. I had my session at Dr Cosima Medispa, and here’s the full scoop.

The salmon sperm facial, also known as Rejuran, is a Korean skincare trend that’s gained traction among celebrities for its promise of plump, revitalized skin.

“The star component is polynucleotides, sourced from salmon DNA. These molecules work by repairing damaged skin, boosting collagen production, and improving elasticity,” explains Dr Cosima Karlburger, Cosmetic Physician at Dr Cosima Medispa. I’d pictured a soothing, spa-like experience before my appointment, but instead, I found myself in a spotless treatment room where my practitioner informed me the process involved micro-injections all over my face. Enter the numbing cream.

The staff at Dr Cosima Medispa were warm and expert, and after a brief chat with the doctor, I was ready to begin. Following a deep cleanse, numbing cream was slathered on and left to work for 20 minutes. I steeled myself for the first injection, delivered via the Double Tite—a device with tiny micro-needles and radiofrequency to ramp up collagen production.

“For optimal outcomes, Rejuran is best administered with an injection tool like the Double Tite, which lessens discomfort and reduces post-treatment swelling. Pairing it with something like radiofrequency microneedling can amplify the benefits,” Dr Cosima notes. I’ll be honest—I anticipated some unease, but it genuinely stung. Even with numbing, the repeated pricking across my face wasn’t what I’d call pleasant.

Kim Kardashian is also a fan of Rejuran

Dr Cosima, who bears a slight resemblance to Jennifer Aniston, assured me that some handle it better than others and graciously paused when it got overwhelming. If you’re thinking about trying this, brace yourself—it’s not for the timid.

The procedure took around 45 minutes, and afterward, my face resembled a sunburned, puffy version of itself—not the dewy glow I’d envisioned, though I was told this was par for the course. Over the next few days, the redness faded, and my skin started feeling softer. By the end of a week, I noticed a gentle brightness and a clear improvement in texture.

The real magic, though, hit two weeks later. My fine lines had softened, my skin tone was more even, and my pores had shrunk noticeably. My face had that coveted springiness, with a freshness I hadn’t seen in ages.

“While you’ll see some difference after one session, most people choose three to four treatments, spaced a month apart, for the best outcome. The effects can last up to a year,” Dr Cosima explains.

“Rejuran enhances skin quality by strengthening collagen structure and boosting elasticity. When injected, it can lighten under-eye areas by thickening the skin. Recovery tends to be quicker after the second session compared to topical methods.

“Ultimately, Rejuran improves texture, hydration, and elasticity, delivering a natural, refreshed appearance without over-plumping. Cosmetic trends are moving toward bio-rejuvenation rather than the overfilled or stiff looks of the past, a shift evident in places like South Korea,” she adds. At about $1395 for a full face and neck treatment, it’s a splurge, but compared to more aggressive procedures, it feels like a milder choice with authentic results.

Would I go back for more? Absolutely. Despite the discomfort and cost, the payoff was unmistakable. There’s a boost of self-assurance that comes with catching a brighter, smoother, fuller reflection in the mirror. If it’s worthy of Jennifer’s approval, it’s worthy of mine.

So, while it’s far from your typical skincare routine, the salmon sperm facial at Dr Cosima Medispa turned out to be an intriguing mix of science, slight pain, and impressive results. It’s a beauty practice I never thought I’d embrace, but now I get why it’s an A-list favorite.
