It was a moment that felt like time itself stopped breathing. Two living legends—Plácido Domingo and José Carreras, the last of the legendary Three Tenors—stood together once more. But this time, a new voice joined them: 31-year-old Kazakh sensation Dimash Qudaibergen. When they began singing “My Way” at Virtuosos 2025, the air changed. Every note carried decades of history, pride, and emotion. It wasn’t just a performance—it was the past shaking hands with the future.

Is this the new Three Tenors? The two surviving Three Tenors, Plácido Domingo and José Carreras, joined forces with 31-year-old Kazakh star Dimash Qudaibergen for a very special performance of “My Way” at Virtuosos 2025. The legendary vocal trio was beautifully complemented by Croatian cello star Hauser and the Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra. “My Way” was a signature tune for the Three Tenors back in the day, and hearing them pass the torch to the younger generation like this was a touching moment.

Hauser opened the song with a nostalgic melody, and then Domingo began the first verse with a rich and sonorous vocal. There’s a reason why Domingo is a bonafide legend, and the 84-year-old still sounds absolutely fantastic. Dimash and Carreras then matched his energy by delivering equally powerful verses. Domingo and Dimash have performed together before, and The Music Man has to say that it was a great moment seeing the older star look at the rising Kazakh talent like a proud dad as he knocked the tune for six.

Virtuosos uploaded the big collab on June 7, 2025, and it was a smash hit, gaining 2.7 million views in short order. Fans added comments such as “You could feel the appreciative way in which two global stars passed on their radiant light to the next generation, as well as Dimash’s respect” and “I am happy that Dimash’s childhood dream came true, and he performed on the same stage with the great maestros Domingo and Carreras. And his vocals were simply magical – deep, velvety, sensual.”

Several of the most popular Three Tenors performances back in the day featured their rendition of “My Way.” One particularly memorable performance came when the Three Tenors delivered the song at the Dodger Stadium in LA in July 1994. Listening to Carreras and Domingo open the song with such velvety verses is a great reminder of how special the group was. Luciano Pavarotti definitely stole the show, though, with his powerhouse high-range hook, before the Three Tenors raised the roof again by singing the hook in harmony.

Canadian singer-songwriter Paul Anka penned “My Way” as an English adaptation of the French song “Comme d’habitude.” Much to the chagrin of his own record label, Anka declined to record the song himself and gave it to Frank Sinatra. Ol’ Blue Eyes became the first to record and release the song, which The Music Man readers may recall was a major international hit. The Three Tenors’ rendition of “My Way” at Dodger Stadium became one of their most famous performances. The television broadcast of the concert, which was held the evening before the 1994 FIFA World Cup Final in California, was watched by 1.3 billion viewers worldwide.
