Ryan Seacrest has hosted American Idol since the show launched back in 2002, as his TV career was taking off.
Two decades later, he is still on the hit competition series but also hosts other shows, including Wheel of Fortune, appears on radio shows, and has written a children’s book with his sister, Meredith Seacrest Leach.
In addition to his hosting duties, the 50-year-old runs his own Ryan Seacrest Foundation, which provides state-of-the-art media centers for various children’s hospitals all over the United States.
His multiple jobs mean he has an estimated net worth of around $450 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth, and is said to make a whopping $75 million a year.
Ryan’s exact salary on American Idol isn’t known, but when he first started off in 2002, he reportedly earned $5 million per year, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Then in 2009, he renegotiated his contract to $15 million before reportedly boosting it to $45 million by 2011. Currently, it’s not known if this is still his salary.
While the figures are just estimates, it is believed he was earning roughly $15 million back in by hosting two radio shows, On Air With Ryan Seacrest and American Top 40.
And as the current host of Wheel of Fortune, Ryan is said to earn around $28 million a year – but the popularity of the show, which has seen its ratings reach record numbers since his debut in September 2024, means he could make even more in the coming years.
In December 2024, an insider told Closer Weekly, “They see Ryan as the future, but Ryan’s not the kind of guy to lock in and sign here.
“He wants freedom and control and refuses to be pigeon-holed, and his obstinate stance is driving bosses crazy.”

When he was announced as the new Wheel of Fortune host, Ryan said on Instagram, “I am truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak.
“I can say, along with the rest of America, that it’s been a privilege and pure joy to watch Pat and Vana on our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years, making us smile every night and feel right at home with them.”
He also shared a tribute to the longtime host, saying, “Pat, I love the way you’ve always celebrated the contestants and made viewers at home feel at ease.
“I look forward to learning everything I can from you during this transition.”
