The world solemnly remembers the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, on its anniversary.

The horrific events of that day forever altered the course of modern history when several planes were hijacked, leading to widespread devastation. On that fateful Tuesday, militant Islamist terrorist group al-Qaeda commandeered a number of commercial aircrafts, two of which were flown into New York’s iconic World Trade Centre.

Another plane tragically crashed into the west side of the Pentagon, resulting in a partial collapse of the American military headquarters. The fourth hijacked plane met its end in a Pennsylvania field, fortunately not reaching its intended target. Meanwhile, Gwyneth Paltrow saved a woman’s life during the 9/11 attacks after a chance encounter.

In total, the tragic day claimed 2,977 lives, with over 25,000 injuries and significant long-term health consequences. Over the years, numerous stories involving celebrities have emerged, including the heartbreaking news that Pete Davidson’s father, a firefighter, was among those who perished in the tragedy, reports the Mirror.

One such revelation was how narrowly Michael Jackson escaped being caught up in the chaos. The pop icon, who passed away on June 25, 2009, was nearly at the scene of the Twin Towers collapse on the morning they were targeted.

However, the “Billie Jean” singer overslept and missed his meeting in the building. He had departed his Neverland Ranch for New York to take part in his 30th Anniversary Solo All Star show on September 7 and September 10 at Madison Square Garden. Several A-list celebrities participated in the performances, including Whitney Houston, Liza Minnelli and Gloria Estefan.

The VIP seating area near the stage for the concerts also featured stars like Elizabeth Taylor and Macaulay Culkin. Just hours after the final show wrapped up, the World Trade Center came under assault. Michael’s brother Jermaine Jackson revealed what led the pop icon to skip his appointment – potentially saving his life.

In his memoir, Jermaine described how his deceased brother had stayed awake until the early hours talking with their mother, Katherine and sister, Rebbie.

“Thankfully, none of us had had a clue that Michael was due at a meeting that morning at the top of one of the Twin Towers,” Jermaine wrote in his book titled You Are Not Alone: Michael: Through a Brother’s Eyes.

“We only discovered this when Mother phoned his hotel to make sure he was okay. She, Rebbie [Jackson] and a few others had left him there around 3am.

“‘Mother, I’m okay, thanks to you. You kept me up talking so late that I overslept and missed my appointment,’” Michael is said to have told his mum. ” He wasn’t the only star to dodge disaster that day, as Mark Wahlberg was also slated to be on one of the planes that crashed into the New York skyscrapers. However, he altered his plans at the eleventh hour.
